OK Now i thought I figured it out now Im being asked for a user name and PIN I am on the phone with Bank of America and they are telling me im out of luck and that I can not use Moneydance! So im not getting any tech support from moneydance which I just purchased and now my bank is telling me im out of luck that i can only get help through moneydance which is not helping me..... or maybe i just expect an answer quicker than later... I have set aside only a certain amount of time to work on setting this up and now im just about out of time and patients! I think i am going to want a refund and go back to quicken... gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr I wonder if I can even get it back?

    Ok, two points:

    (1) There is a free trial of Moneydance. If you're so sensitive to the costs, you probably should have tried the free trial first.

    (2) On this board, expecting a response in 10 minutes is not reasonable. This is a small company, and they are very responsive to requests for help, but it can often take a day or several days, depending on their workload.

    (3) In the meantime, try doing a search on Bank of America in the forum. There are other posts on this subject.

    1. I did download the free trial but didn't want to spend the time setting it up because i have more than 100 entries to download from my bank first thing. So I purchased it on the advise of a Apple rep.
    2. I called my bank and they had no idea what I was talking about nor have they ever heard of Moneydance. Their suggestion was down load to a text file than import into money dance. Doing this is not easier or more effeicent then Quicken.
    3. I being new had no idea that I was purchasing software that didnt have the tech support to answer a question right away.
    4. All of that being said you still did not answer my question. In fact I have looked at several discussions including the one about PINs being needed to download from your bank.. You didn't really answer that question either. I even read it to the tech at the bank, they were really lost after that. Your tech support didn't give a solution or directions to help solve that persons issue either. We are not all computer techs we need plain language help. Now I suppose it will be several hours or days before I get a response or even help to my original question.

So with all being said are you going to help or can you help?

Just to be clear, I don't work for The Infinite Kind, I'm just a user like you. That said, I did answer one of your questions. You asked "how long does it usually take to get tech support?" and I answered you.

I don't have a bank account with Bank of America, so I can't provide any specifics. But your question is completely generic and provides no indication of where you are encountering a problem, which is why I didn't try to help you further. Are you having trouble figuring out how to get started with online banking, or are you getting some kind of error?

Generally, to set up online banking, you click on the account name in the home screen to go into the register. You'll see three buttons in the upper left part of the window: Actions, Online, and New Transaction. Click on Online, and then select Set Up Online Banking, and follow the prompts.

If that is not your question, you'll have to provide more detail.

    A couple more points:

    (1) Your user name and PIN for Moneydance purposes are the same user name and PIN that you use to log into your account on the bank's website, and that you use in Quicken to download your transactions.

    (2) The 100 transaction limit for the trial version of Moneydance applies only to manually entered transactions, not to downloaded/imported transactions. It states as much at the top of the download page.

I don't have account with BoA but did check FAQ's...

I am also a user of MD and not a developer but I went to the FAQ page and this might help:

"Moneydance can connect to financial institutions that allow direct connections to their services via the OFX protocol. If your bank is not listed in the list of available financial institutions, please visit the list of banks we do not support to see a reason why. If the bank is not listed there, either add them to the list, or email Support. Frequently banks that do not support direct connections usually provide web-based downloads of transactions/statements from their web site. Moneydance can import virtually any type of downloadable transaction file, including QIF? and OFX/QFX."

Most banks don't know of MD but it is compatible with QIF and QFX/OFX files.... ie Quicken and MS Money..... that being the case perhaps you can download the file from BoA and import into MD at least until MD has handshaking with BoA... I have a Schwab 401k account and just download the "Quicken" type file with date ranges that I specify and works flawlessly for me....

Again as stated by others, the company is small and the developers and support staff will respond... I've used MD for 2 yrs. and the program is great and expanding and improving.... hang in there

OK thank you John... for your help. My mistake I thought you were tech support. Its to late for the 100 transactions limit I already purchased the software.
I think I am receiving an error it reads something like this:

A communication or parsing error occurred. This could be the result of a network problem, a proxy error, or misconfigured server. Error Description: java.io.IOException: HTTP Error:400 OFX

Do you know what this means?

OK Steve thank you too! I was on the phone with BOA they seem as clueless as me..lol I dont want to have to download into a text/excel type file then import into the MD software. I want to download straight from the banks website to MD. Im just trying to set it up. I have all my accounts in MD numbers, routing numbers etc.... I have clicked on the online set up. I found BOA and when I click next Im prompted to enter a user ID and PIN number. I do not have to enter these with quicken. I did try the user Id I use when i log on to BOA but I get an error msg. I know im not a computer genius but im not usually this blonde when it comes to figuring these things out. So its really frustrating me. Especially since Im on a time budget and I already purchased the software mainly because im tired of Quicken making me upgrade every 3 years and they 2009 version for MAC isn't out yet. With all that being said can you Steve or John figure this out?

Just to clarify, when you initially set up online banking in Quicken, you had to provide the same username and PIN information too. So Moneydance's setup process is no different in that regard. And like Quicken, Moneydance can be set to remember your username and password information so you never have to enter them again, but we'll worry about that once you get up and running.

I'm not familiar with that particular error. When I get funny errors, I usually just quit Moneydance and restart and the error goes away. You should also do a search in this forum for that error and see if anything comes up. Otherwise, I'd just wait until the Infinite Kind folks can help, as they are familiar with what these mean. Now that you've provided details about the operating system and the error, they should be able to help more effectively.

The download process I use gives me a QFX file that I import directly into MD.. not a text/excel file.... did you try it yet? Also I believe I read a thread a short while ago that the developer, Sean was going to set up downloading that would save "id" and "passwords".

I know this isn't what you want to hear but it just adds 1 step... I would hazard a guess that the developer will add more banks for the next release of MD...

I also know that there has been other discussions for BoA and other banks just do a search.. good luck.

Also as you get more familiar with Md there is a lot of valuable info/tips in the FAQ section... enjoy!

Thank you guys! I decided to call my bank again! This time I actually got someone who might have known what to do. He changed something to OFX and said give it 24 hours then try again. So Im closing the MD program and taking a deep breath. I will tackle it again later. Thanks for all of your help.

    Kerriwnt,

I work for Moneydance as customer support and it just so happens my personal account is with BofA. Moneydance uses the same protocols as Quicken for Windows to connect directly to a bank. So when I set up direct connect for use with Moneydance, I called BofA and said, "Please set up my account for direct connections as if I were using Quicken." Once that was done, I was able to connect directly. Direct Connect can also be enabled from your account on BofA's website.

Once it's all turned on from BofA's end, it's a very simple process. BofA will charge you $10 a month (just as they would were you connecting from Quicken), however. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions.

    Sincerely,

    Brian

Thanks Brian, It looks like it was a issue with the bank. However since Im new to mac and MD things are all together different. On my banks website I used to be able to click download and the information was downloaded directly into Quicken. Is this how MD is supposed to work? When I want to download Im given the option of Quicken, Money, 4 digit or 2 digit (im assuming that means year support 09 or 2009) when i choose a 2-4 digit i get an error msg saying the file could be corrupt. When I use the quicken QIF it downloads to a "download section on the mac not directly into MD. When I open the download its in numbers? So im not only confused with MD I guess Im confused as to how the MAC processes the download. Can you help? I have gone through every account and set them up for online banking am I missing something? I guess the was a dumb question...lol

    Kerri,

I'd like to clarify what your options are. There are two different methods by which you can import your banking history into Moneydance. Both are not always available with every bank (which is why there are two), but both are available to you with BofA.

The first method is called "Web Connect." This simply refers to the process of manually downloading a file containing your transactions (any of the file types available from BofA will do) and importing it into Moneydance. This method requires you to use your browser to open BofA's website and download the file from your account history. There is no fee to do this.

The second method, Direct Connect, is not available with all banks, but it is available with BofA. However, with BofA there is a $10 monthly fee that they assign to make this available to you. In Direct Connect, once your account has been enabled by them (ask them to enable your account for use with Quicken for Windows because they aren't familiar with Moneydance and the protocols are the same) you will be able to download your transaction directly from within Moneydance. You won't need to import a file and you won't need to go to BofA's website from you browser. In the end, you will have the same information available to you within Moneydance. The question is whether you want to pay BofA $10 per month for the added convenience. It is worth noting that not all banks charge this $10. Wachovia, for example, does not.

I hope this clears things up for you.
