Many financial institutions will require you to enable your accounts for application-based online banking. You can accomplish this by asking your bank to set up your account for connections from Quicken. Moneydance uses exactly the same OFX server connection protocol as Quicken but your bank representative may not know this and mistakenly believe that you can not connect in Moneydance. Calling up your bank and stating precisely the following should get you started. "Please enable direct connect on my account such that I can connect to your servers directly with Quicken. Also give me the login credentials I need to connect Quicken to this service."

Application-based online banking often requires a different login/PIN than the ones that are used for ATM or web-based banking. When you enable your account for access from Moneydance or Quicken, your financial institution should let you know what customer ID/login and PIN to use.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thanks for your interest in Moneydance!

Thanks for the assistance. I have used Quicken in the past and currently wanting to switch. I am aware of the Web Connect vs. Direct Connect. I called the bank and was assured that they only offer direct connect when using Quicken. However I tried to dispute this because Quicken ask for the same security questions that my online banking uses. From my understanding, this is Web Connect not Direct Connect.

Since the bank has assured me that they utilize direct connect, not web connect, but my username and password do not work, is it possible for me to set up the direct connect in Moneydance?

Thanks again.

Bretttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/27418782010-09-01T16:03:09Z2010-09-01T16:03:09ZAllegacy Federal Credit Union connection issue

Hi Brett,

Unfortunately, whoever you talked to at your bank was mistaken. According to Quicken's Website, Allegacy offers both web connect and direct connect. You're right that the security questions in Quicken indicate that you are connecting with web connect and not direct connect.

It may be the case that your bank calls everything "direct connect" and calls OFX connections something like "PC Banking" or something else vague. It could also be the case that you use the same userid and password for both web connect and direct connect. Either way, you'll need to call them back and convince them to set up your account with direct connect. If whoever you talk to insists that they only use direct connect, perhaps you could ask them to connect you to someone higher up the support chain.
