The primary determinate is that the Australian Banks would have
to provide the infrastructure to facilitate Application based
online banking. This would mean installing OFX servers along with
the authorisation mechanisms and the links back into the banks main
computer systems.

I do not see this happening anytime soon and expect the banks to
continue to only provide web based online banking along with the
ability to download transaction files in formats like QIF.

In short you are asking the wrong organisation for the
capability as Moneydance should work with any bank that provides
standards based OFX connectivity for its customers, so the question
is really for the banks to answer.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/388053882015-12-31T02:11:59Z2015-12-31T02:11:59ZBanks in Australia

Ah, fair. I'll start discussions on their various support forums
and hopefully they'll pick up a bit of steam, maybe convince them
to get up to speed haha
Thanks!

Tonytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/388053882015-12-31T02:43:40Z2015-12-31T10:45:27ZBanks in Australia

An eternal optimist I see :)

Reckon Personal plus, or whatever they are calling it this year,
is the best known personal finance software in Australia and
probably the most widely used as it is one of the few packages that
has been customised for local conditions. Historically it was
Quicken that has been licensed by Reckon and locally adapted.

I was a Reckon customer for many years and they had removed the
online capability. Given they are a local company, and when I was
with them banked ANZ, they didn't seem to push their bank for
online capability so they don't seem interested and if the possibly
the major software vendor is not interested then I expect the Banks
will not be either, if they ever were.

Given Intuit want to sell Quicken I would not be surprised to
see application based online banking allowed to die (Intuit has a
fair bit of pull in the U.S. so I suspect they drove its adoption
in the first place), only a subset of US institutions support it
too.

Given the problems I see in these forums around it I also
suspect it is bit of a support black hole.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/388053882015-12-31T09:44:59Z2015-12-31T09:44:59ZBanks in Australia

Hi Tony,

The information Des has provided is exactly what you need to
know regarding OFX connect with your bank. If your financial
institutions begin supporting OFX direct connections in future,
please let us know and we'd be happy to set up a connection with
them.

If you're not already aware, the best way to get your
transactions into Moneydance is to use a web browser to download
them from your bank's web site. You can download into QFX, QIF, OFX
or OFC files, any of which will import cleanly into Moneydance.

I hope this information is helpful, please let us know if we can
be of further assistance.
