I wonder if direct OFX links can be made to EDSEFCU (https://www.edscu.org/home/about/contact). I can download .qfx files and import them, and I know that they can do an OFX transfer with Quicken, but how can I connect online?

By the way, I'm happy just to get QFX file import; GnuCash requires a .QIF file, which the credit union says it will not support any longer (they once did).

Thanks

    Hi Mike,

Your bank does support direct OFX connections, which Moneydance (and other financial software) requires in order to talk directly to a bank. We are working on adding your bank, and will let you know when the connection is complete (this generally within 7-10 business days).

    Hi Mike,

We've added support for your bank to Moneydance. It should now appear in the list of available institutions when you try to set up online banking. Let us know if you have any further questions of problems. Thanks for using Moneydance!

Thanks Jessica! I'll try it out at the EOM in a couple of days. But I have
    one other issue...

It seems that my Citi credit card produces a QFX file that Moneydance can't
handle. The XML is all on one line and that produces an error message:

java.io.IOException: Unexpected end of message while reading headers.

I assume this means that the read buffer is insufficient for such a long
line and it is getting truncated.. The most recent one was 1128 bytes, but
they get longer. I can import them if I edit and put in at least one line
break after the header, but that is a rather a pain.

I think this is a bug in Moneydance (or is Citi at fault? - I don't know the
specification for that format), but I can't get on the wiki to enter a
    report.

    Thanks again,
    MikeL

    Hi Mike,

I see that you've reported this bug in our bug tracker. I have the same error on my computer using your sample file. Thanks for your clear bug report...that'll make it much easier for us to fix this for the next release. In the meantime, I'm afraid you'll have to keep using your workaround. Sorry for the inconvenience.

No problem, I can live with it. My other card doesn't even give me that
much (PDF downloads only - phaw).

I appreciate the personal response. Since I receive bug reports in my job,
I try to be clear! Now, if I could just get that code maybe I could fix
    it... ;-)

    Thanks,
    MikeL

    Hi Mike,

According to the Sean (our Head Developer), this is actually a bug with your bank and not with Moneydance. Here's what he wrote on the bug report:

"Thank you for attaching the sample qfx file. At first I thought this was a bug in Moneydance that I thought I fixed many years ago, but in this case the problem is definitely with the file. All of the newlines have been stripped out of the file, and in the case of the old (pre-2.0) OFX formats (which this file is) the newlines are required to delimit the header fields.

Can you describe how this file is being downloaded? Are you loading the file in a web browser and then selecting the "File->Save" menu, or are you clicking the link for the download and selecting something like "Save Link As..."? Or is it just a download button on a web form? If the latter, does the QFX file open and display itself in your browser before you save it to a file?

THe above questions are just to get a better idea of how the file is ending up like this. Unless the newlines are being removed during or after the download, this is definitely an error that CITI will need to correct.

    Thanks, Sean"

That's just the file as downloaded from the website (it's a button, but it's
the equivalent of a "save as" - it just downloads to the specified folder).
I suspected the file format was bogus, but I wouldn't really know. I'll
shoot them an email and see if they reply (he said, doubtfully)...

    Thanks,
    MikeL

    Hi Mike,

Thanks for following up on this. It definitely sounds like it's a problem on their side. I hope you're successful in getting them to fix it. Let us know if there's anything else we can do from our end.
