This comment was split from the discussion: can't set up online banking and bill pay with Key Bank

Jessica,

This posting was helpful. I am also having trouble with Key Bank. I did use Quicken Bill Pay with Key Bank and paid all of my bills through Quicken. I want to do the same with Moneydance. I set up Online Banking and Online Billpay correctly. I get errors such as User ID/Password not recognized. I called Key Online Support. They had my information and when I tried accessing the account, the rep. could see me accessing the account. But I got nothing. When he found out that I wasn't using Quicken, he said for me to contact Moneydance. I'm using my direct pay id and previously assigned and changed password which worked in Quicken. Should I ask for a new password?

    Hi Joe,

Are you using the same ID for bill payments that you were using in Quicken? if so, that may be the source of the problem. Moneydance does not support Quicken BillPay, but we do support payments directly through Key. You may need a new userid and password in order to make payments through Moneydance.

Are you able to download transactions?

    Jessica,

I called Key Bank tonight and actually got through very quickly to its online service representative. The person told me that I have to contact someone from the bank's "Personal Finance Management" of PFM team from 7A to 7P for assistance. I think I tried to download to many times and the bank's locked me out. I am now getting this message:

There was an error communicating with your financial institution. The details of this error are below.
    Bank Name: Key Bank
The error code reported by the server was: 15502
    USERPASS lockout

I'll get back to you once I can contact "PFM." Thanks for your support.

I still cannot get the connection. I called Key Bank PFM and they reset my password. I went through the process again and changed my password as directed. Now I get the message Error Code 2003 Account Not found.

    Hi Joe,

It seems like Moneydance is having trouble forgetting your old connection information. To fix this, you'll need to force clear the current connection information for your bank in Moneydance. I'm sending a file called remove_one_service.py that will help do that. Before proceeding, please back up your Moneydance file, just in case something goes wrong. So far, this hasn't caused any problems, but better safe than sorry!

To use the file, first save it to your computer and then follow these steps:

    1) In Moneydance, click on the Extensions Menu and choose the Manage Extensions option.
    2) From the list of available extensions, choose the python scripting interface extension, then click Install to download the extension and finish to complete the installation.
    3) Close the Manage Extensions window.
    4) Again, click the Extensions menu. This time, choose the Python Interface option.
    5) In the python scripting window, click the read from file button and load the file from whereever you saved it. You will be asked to select which connection you want to clear. Choose your bank, and click OK. You'll get a confirmation message when the connection has been removed. Close the window when done.
    6) Set up the connection to your bank like normal. Since all of your settings have been cleared, you should get the most recent connection information for your bank.

Hopefully, that will work. If it doesn't, let me know and we'll continue troubleshooting.

    Jessica,

I did it. I cleared the bank connection and had to re-select Key Bank. Still I got the same error when I tried downloading transactions. I also tried to send a payment online and got an error. I'm ready for the next step. Is this common with Key Bank or all banks?

    Jessica,

I also called Key Bank. They see me accessing the account ok, and they believe it is on the MD side of things. One thing he did not have an answer for. After I select Key Bank, I put in my ID and indicate that I have already changed my temporary password. In the next window, I put in the routing number, which I double checked, the account number, which I double checked. The next item requested is my "Customer ID" The person I talked to did not know what that meant, so I put in my SSN. I then made the account type as Checking and selected bot Bill Payment Enabled and Online Banking. When I tried to download my transactions, I get the same error indicating account not found, but it was found, because Key Bank could see that I am accessing my account.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Joe,

It might be that you needed to put something else in for your Customer ID. You should have been sent a customer ID to use in the packet of information Key sent to you when you signed up for direct connect. Some banks use your SSN, but other assign a special number for each customer. Using the wrong one could definitely cause errors. Is there any way you can get Key to resend your connection credentials?

    Jessica,

I figured it out. Moneydance believed that my account was a checking account. I think of it as a checking account. I changed the option to "Money Market" and it started working. Both downloading transactions and bill pay. I hope others who use Key Bank and perhaps other banks can use this tip. Thanks for your help. I was testing it out after getting an iMac and losing my Quicken. I'm definitely buying it now, in part because of your great customer service (even though I figured it out myself). Thank you.
