There could be a variety of reasons for this. One possibility is that you have your report setting such that you are displaying 'both sides' of each transaction. If you could attach screenshots with examples of these transactions, along with the settings window for your report, we could possibly offer more detailed suggestions.

It would also be good to know what kind of information you are trying to get displayed in your report.

It looks like you have included accounts and categories in your report.

I would suggest you click on the edit button at the top of the report and review your selections within the parameters screen.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484867062020-07-26T21:25:12Z2020-07-26T21:25:12Zdouble entry confusing

Hello,

I agree with the above assessment, and it seems to be what I speculated about in my initial reply. If you don't understand what we mean about having both accounts and categories set to display in this report, please also send a screenshot of the setting window for this report, and we can offer more specific suggestions.

I'm just another user but I recognise what you're seeing and I think I understand. The Transactions report is working according to the centuries-old principles of double entry and it's great that Moneydance provides it, but it's not what you want. You might prefer the "Transaction filter" report. The default setting works pretty well but you might prefer to un-tick Show Splits, otherwise you'll see the total of a transaction and then the splits underneath it.

Hope this helps,
generate a category report, for example what was spent on electric, etc. I
don’t have much data here, just trying to see if the program would work for
me.

Kathy Barleytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484867062020-07-28T04:02:09Z2020-07-28T04:02:09Zdouble entry confusing

I'm a fellow user.

For category reporting it is probably best to use one of the Income and Expense report, these are specifically geared towards category reporting

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484867062020-07-28T07:03:17Z2020-07-28T07:03:17Zdouble entry confusing

How do I make a report on just one category, not the whole income/expense
info?

Kathy Barleytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484867062020-07-28T07:32:42Z2020-07-28T07:32:42Zdouble entry confusing

Try the following

Click on the Income & Expense Detail report

Click on the Edit button at the top of the report

The parameters windows opens

Click on the Reset button at the bottom of the screen

Toward the bottom is a line that starts Select, choose the "By Individual" button

Select the None button

Scroll through the category list and select the category you want

Select other parameters you want, like the date range

Choose the OK button to generate the report.

get. The report title and total should be same as the data that I queried
for in my opinion. I need a program that will help me keep things straight
for tax time. Not sure this is for me. Thank you so much for your time and
attention to help me!

Kathy Barleytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/484867062020-07-28T22:45:21Z2020-07-28T22:45:21Zdouble entry confusing

I have set categories as Tax Related and use memorized Income and Expense reports to provide me with reports suitable for Tax time. I have also structured my categories to suit taxation reporting for those specific items.
