Syncing Moneydance with Dropbox
Hi I have a moneydance installation on my iMAC and I am using it for two separate sets of Accounts (cant remember what MD call this).
One is called Richards Personal Finances and one is called Richards Business Finance. I can add Richards Personal Finances to Sync to dropbox and all is great - works perfectly. When I then switch to Richards Business Finances and try to add this to dropbox, it all looks good up to the point at which it is supposed to show the Dropbox Authentication Password key which shows as Blank.
Is there a way around this, or am I only able to sync one and not the other. If I cant are there any other options I could use please.
Thanks
Rich

Hi Rick
I am syncing a number of data sets between computers but all using Dropbox Folder.
So as a test I tried syncing two data sets using Dropbox Connection and the process worked perfectly.
The test was done on window 10 running Moneydance 2020(1915).
All I can suggest is reboot your computer and try again.
Restart Moneydance and try to sync the second data set again.
If it fails close Moneydance and post your errlog.txt file.
On a Mac to be found at
Home folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt or:
~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:
~/Library This should pull up your local Library folder.
Support or others may see an issue in the error log.
Hope this helps

Hi Derek
I am running on MacOSSierra and I cant find either location, nor a file called err log.txt I am afraid.
I have restarted Mac and MD to no avail I am afraid. It shows the connection is authorised as I see my Dropbox user in below the Show passphrase, but when I click show - still nothing is visible.

Hi Rick
You should be able to find the errlog.txt file using one of the methods I provided.
The error log can also be displayed in the CONSOLE WINDOW under HELP.
Use the SAVE button to save the errlog.txt file to a known location, then post that.
You could also try the syncing method DROPBOX FOLDER instead of DROPBOX CONNECTION as using this method you avoid the authorisation window. Dropbox Folder assumes you have Dropbox Client installed on your computer, you can see the Dropbox Folder on your computer and you purchased Moneydance direct, not from Apple.
Hope this helps

I'm a fellow user.
MacOS Sierra (10.12) is going to bite you with Moneydance sooner or later.
Moneydance is written in the Java programming language and there are known problems with Java programs on the last three point releases of Sierra. Apple corrected the problems in High Sierra. Extremely slow printing is one of the best known issues.
I see nothing untoward in the log file up to the point it was captured, by no means does it show a complete session - log files get overwritten every time Moneydance is restarted., hence why it needs to be captured just after attempting to do whatever is causing the problem or capturing it after Moneydance has been closed.

OK I have managed to get it working. This was the second dataset (Richards Money) I had on the machine. The first one (Work Finances) was syncing away quite happily to Dropbox.
So I took the sync passphrase from the first dataset (Work Finances) - added it to the one that couldn't show the passphrase second passphrase (Richards Money) and it synced and created a file in dropbox - but the key didn't allow me to access my Richards Money dataset (new one created).
So I edited the passphrase in Richards Money to be a new value and that continued to sync.
Then I went to a different device - installed moneydance, synced to dropbox and it showed me both of my datasets - I selected Richards Money, added my manually updated key and its working.
On a different device I have moneydance accessing the original dataset (Work Finances) and that too works.
More complicated than I wanted and probably not as expected, but it works so I am happy.
