Security listed in XFER transaction

In another thread I found this statement "Moneydance does not support direct transfer of securities between investment accounts. And yet, when I select XFER when entering a transaction, the first security found for that account is listed in the security field. This field is grayed out and therefore cannot be changed. How do I enter a XFER transaction without the security being listed? This occurs on all my investment accounts.

    Hi Chris,

Have you tried using the Investment account's 'Bank Register' to make the transfer?

Thanks Kevin. I actually had not noticed that tap before. Which brings be to, what is the difference between the two registers. However that still does not answer why a security is automatically listed when entering an XFR transaction, and that security cannot be removed. I see XFR transactions listed in Register with no security listed, these being cash transfers between accounts downloaded from the financial company.

    Hi Chris,

You can disregard the grayed out security when creating an Xfr transaction in the 'Register' of an investment account.
After you commit the transaction to the register the grayed out security will no longer appear in the transaction.

The way I understand it is that the 'Bank Register' is made available for those investment accounts that provide check-writing or other bank-type transactions. Personally, I have no use for it and tend to ignore it.

Exactly what type of transfer are you attempting to make...
    A transfer of funds? (Easy)
    Or...
A transfer of securities? (Doable but not as easy. Screws with security performance history)

    I'm a fellow user.

Anything that appears in a transaction that is greyed out is just being used as a placeholder, i.e. it is not really there. Yes it would be much better if it was blanked out but it is not. The entry you see is not used in any way and cannot be used, it is generally an invalid field for the type of transaction you are entering.
