Hi Glen

My auto Moneydance backup on closing Moneydance takes about 2 to 3 seconds to save to my Dropbox folder on my hard drive. The resulting file is 29.86mb. tested on windows 10 Moneydance 2021.1(3069).
How long does it take to save? Were is your Moneydance Backup location? How large is the file? What is your operating system.

Your Moneydance errlog.txt may help to explain.
If you're using Mac OS, it should be located at one of these locations within your Home folder:
~/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/Data/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt or:

~/Library/Application Support/Moneydance/errlog.txt

If you have any trouble finding your Home Library folder you can open Finder and hold down the option key while selecting the Go menu and the Library folder option should occur or you can open Finder and select Go -> Go to Folder and copy and paste in the following:
~/Library This should pull up your local Library folder.

If you're using Windows, it should be located under your login directory at:
C:\Users(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt

or

C:\Documents and Settings(yourusername).moneydance\errlog.txt
Depending on your version of Windows

If you're using Linux it should be located in your home folder at:
~/.moneydance/errlog.txt

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492426282021-06-11T16:17:48Z2021-10-14T18:33:03Zbackup

Thanks for the reply
The user file (sam) opens to .moneydance that opens to archive that opens to backups clicking on that brains up a list of backups by date. Latest today 4745kb in the document file in the same folder there are the same backup files. Win 10 ver 20H2. Bottom of err log mentions dropbox which I do not have

canyonviewstabletag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492426282021-06-11T16:31:37Z2021-06-11T16:31:37Zbackup

Nothing obvious in log. I do know that MD2021.1 is faster than 2017 due to compression. Well it was for me anyway.

There have been 3 significant releases since Moneydance 2017; 2019, 2020 & 2021.

I do not know how you have been looking for newer versions so cannot say why you have not located any.

An upgrade from Moneydance 2017 to 2021 is not free however, for directly purchased versions there is a 50% discount.

It is not clear from your posts where your backups are being written to, the image file you posted just shows as black on my system. If it is to a network drive then I would expect it to be quite slow and thus Moneydance to take a while to close down.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492426282021-06-13T04:31:20Z2021-10-14T18:33:03Zbackup

Found the up dates and that apparently as fixed my problem… Thanks for all the help

I have the same problem, I am on latest MD and Big Sur. when I manually backup to my main drive it can take 15 to 20 seconds. If I then quit MD which forces a backup which is set to Dropbox, it takes only 3 or 4 seconds? Any ideas?
Cheers....

tonyttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492426282021-06-13T08:53:21Z2021-06-13T08:53:21Zbackup

Tony can you clarify how you manually backup? When you say you quit and it backs up to Dropbox, do you mean it’s doing the sync? Or that a .moneydancearchive file gets created in Dropbox? What version of MD?

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492426282021-06-13T09:07:40Z2021-06-13T09:07:40Zbackup

Hi Stuart
It is the dropbox folder on my main internal drive. I guess it mirrors what is saved on Dropbox, I am not sure I even created it, I think it was created when I installed Deopbox.
The manual backups are also on my main drive which I then have backup set to copy them to another drive if all that makes sense. If not, let me know!
Thanks...

tonyttag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/492426282021-06-13T12:07:33Z2021-06-13T12:07:33Zbackup

Not really. If the backups are both going to the same place, then they should take the same amount of time.
