With a lot of banks/institutions moving away from OFX, I have only 1 functioning provider I can online sync through and it doesn't work that well due to a feature request never addressed. With Moneydance 2022, there's now the addition of a third party tool/service to make online banking work. I feel like I'm actually being asked to pay more now than when I had a more consistently functioning product in 2019.

kionysustag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-05T00:45:15Z2021-10-05T00:45:15ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

The moneydance 2022 link has no concept of an upgrade like https://infinitekind.com/purchase does.

kionysustag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-05T00:51:07Z2021-10-05T00:51:07ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

just a user

First Moneydance 2022 (4045) is a preview, so realize you will be beta testing vs. getting a "done and done" version. That will probably come soon, but not yet.

To upgrade (it should be half price), you'd download the preview and then upgrade "in-app", i.e. within the product.

And yes, there will now be a $2/month subscription service to access the third party service. For those who don't want this service, it is not required, but it seems obvious you want it.

As for "being asked to pay more" - well, you are. In 2019, OFX worked more, but now banks are abandoning it in favor of aggregators vs. software vendors. MD isn't happy about it either.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-05T00:52:07Z2021-10-05T00:52:07ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

Personally, I'm sticking with 2021(3069) for now, and watching while munching popcorn.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-05T00:57:09Z2021-10-05T00:57:09ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

I've always run the preview versions rather than the release versions.
My impression is that the in-app upgrade is supposed to work, so I will leave it to someone else to say differently or agree.

dtdtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-05T08:09:35Z2021-10-05T08:09:35ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

I am not support staff, just a user.
Hi kionysus

If you upgraded to 2022 and your key was purchased for 2021 then the upgrade to 2022 is a free upgrade. If you upgrade to 2022 and your key was purchased for an earlier version than 2021 there is a 50% discount. But as 2022 is not yet released but is a preview build the only way to get a 2022 50% discount link is to use the Upgrade button with 2022 installed See screen shot. You can’t use the normal web site purchase page or Moneydance+ under FILES (MONEYDANCE on Mac) that only for setting up Moneydance+.

Note: 2022 is not a normal preview release with bug fixes it has a major feature add Moneydance +.

Moneydance + is a way of connecting to financial institutions that do not use Direct Connect but an aggregator, third party company called Plaid. For each Moneydance customer who uses the optional Moneydance + feature in Moneydance Plaid charges a monthly subscription and Moneydance has to run and maintain an extra server. These costs are passed on to Moneydance + users as a $2.00/£1.82 monthly subscription after a 14 day trial period.

I am using 2022 but not Moneydance + with no issues. Moneydance+ is still a work in progress, expect issues until the final preview and stable release of 2022.

I you don’t want to use Moneydance + there is no subscription and none of the existing features in 2021 are lost and you get the bug fixes and some other features in the upgrade. If your financial institutions still support Direct Connect it will still work for free.

Hope this helps

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-05T08:56:25Z2021-10-05T11:29:24ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

@kionysus@gmail.com

I've checked our records using your email address and I have located your purchase history.

I can confirm your license key was purchased for use with Moneydance 2019, and it's also valid for use with Moneydance 2020 and 2021.

As the other user have stated earlier on this public thread Moneydance 2022 will require you to purchase a new license key (from a new vendor).
If you wish do this, open Moneydance 2022 and choose Help > Register Moneydance. Then click the link that's displayed and you'll be taken to the new purchase page.

Alternatively, you can click here

If you prefer not to upgrade, you can re-download Moneydance 2021 from this page and use your existing license key to register the program.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

In the latest preview version, it has no concept of the upgrade and doesn't prompt for your email. I hope that makes sense.

kionysustag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-11T20:06:02Z2021-10-11T20:06:02ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

I'm confused.

Q1. Preview? Or Stable/Final?

I'm currently running 2021.1 (3069) on a Mac. I have the Updater within Moneydance set to NOT offer me Preview or Beta releases. It's notifying me about 2022 (4054) being available. This suggests 2022 (4054) is Final/Stable rather than Preview.

Yet earlier posts in this thread say it's just a Preview release. (But I've not spotted any mention to that effect in the Updater notification, Update page or blog post.)

Is 2022 (4054) definitely a Preview (in which case the Moneydance Updater is incorrect in telling me about it?

Or is 2022 (4054) actually a stable/final release?

Q2. Free or Paid upgrade from 2019?

Earlier posts here say that people with a 2021 licence can get a free upgrade to 2022, but people with earlier licences need to buy an upgrade, which is at half price.

My licence is for 2019, and does indeed work for 2021. However, the Update page at
https://infinitekind.com/update
— where I can check my licence key for eligibility for 2022 — says,

If you've purchased Moneydance 2019 or 2020 then it's a free upgrade and your existing license will keep working in the new version.

This is contradictory:

Are the posts here correct and the Update page wrong in saying that people with licences earlier than for 2021 can use 2022 for free?

Or is the Update page correct and 2022 is a free upgrade for people with 2019 or later licences?

If anyone can un-confuse me I'll be grateful!
Cheers,
Mike

truthseeker10tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-11T21:04:04Z2021-10-11T21:04:04ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

I'm a fellow user.

It seemed Moneydance 2022 has just been released, it will take a bit of time for the sites to be updated. The company is also moving to a different payment provider.

As I understand it Moneydance 2022 will be a free upgrade to those that purchased Moneydance 2021.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-11T21:09:35Z2021-10-11T21:09:35ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

Ah! A "just released" release might well explain it, and also that the version mentioned before was 2022 (4045) whereas I'm seeing 2022 (4054). I'd thought it was just a typo swapping two digits, but it might actually be the build number is newer for the release.

I might give it a day or two just to be sure — I'm not usually too keen to run beta/preview software, especially for my accounts! :-)

Thanks ever so for your thoughts!

truthseeker10tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/494197732021-10-11T21:10:38Z2021-10-11T21:10:38ZMoneydance 2022 Upgrade Discount

Hi Mike,

Build 4054 is both a preview and a stable release. Preview versions are basically a continuous update, and when things are stable enough then we promote one of them as a stable release. The updater will show you the release notes for the version that you've selected, which is the stable release which was just changed to 4054 a couple of hours ago.

To upgrade to 2022 (whether it's a recent preview or stable) you'll need to have a license to Moneydance 2021 or 2022, but you can check by entering your license key into the key testing form on the purchase page https://infinitekind.com/purchase-2022

I did actually forget to update the text on the update page, but have just corrected that. I'm sorry for the old information there.

You're welcome to keep using Moneydance 2021, 2020, 2019, or any earlier version for as long as you like and we won't sunset any features or otherwise disable anything about past versions.

Thanks,
Sean

Thank you SO much for clarifying it so well. (But it still seems odd that the Updater notifies about a Preview — even a Stable Preview — when its checkbox where you ask to be told about Previews and Betas is deselected! That threw me!)

As for overlooking the Update page, just glad I could spot it and report it early. (It's so rare you all forget things like that we start assuming you never make mistakes or overlook things! :-)

Thanks again for you message, and your wonderful work on Moneydance — I've used it for many years (since 2005) — and love it. (I'm hoping 2022 will at last fix the date field width formatting/truncation problems that never got seen to in the 2021 version 🤞)

That's strange the updater isn't supposed to be showing the stable release as a preview. I'll take a look at it. As for the date field width, I did fix that one and apologise that it took me an entire year!

Thank you so much for using Moneydance since 2005!

Just to be clear, the Updater has a checkbox labelled Check for preview/beta updates and I have this unticked.

So for myself, if this 2022 (4054) release is classified as Stable/Final I'd expect the Updater to tell me about it. But if it's only Preview (even a Stable Preview) I'd expect the Updater not to tell me about it.

(Unless, of course, this is actually a Stable/Final release? … or that a Stable Preview is for some reason being considered to be Stable/Final-enough for the Updater to offer? 🤯)

By the way, the Updater in 2021.1 (3069) doesn't play nicely with Dark Mode on a Mac running Big Sur. The text of the release notes is shown as black on very dark grey; see the first screenshot I attach. Temporarily the Mac switching to Light Mode lets you read the text of the release notes, but leaves the heading/intro text and buttons unreadable with their white text illegible against their now pale grey background: see second screenshot. You might want to check this behaviour in the 2022 version?
