Currently there is not a method for doing that. MD recommends keeping all transactions in the current database. They recommend using the register filters to control which transactions you view. In fact if you simply delete old transactions the MD database will grow in size. Years ago MD supported a method an archive method but they abandoned it because of problems dealing with how transactions between accounts are interconnected. There are work around ways to do an archive, but involves a lot of manual exporting, importing, balance adjustments, etc. Lots of ways to mess up your account balances so most just leave it alone. That's the reason MD dropped that feature.

mhoggietag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495299702021-12-06T13:00:46Z2021-12-06T13:00:46ZHow to archive old transactions

... what is your issue that you are trying to solve?

I used to be able to do this easily in Quicken. I wanted to remove the names of several company shares from the securities list, which have not been owned for many years, to reduce the length of the list. Can't do so because "cannot remove currency which is being used". If I could archive old transactions, then I could delete some old accounts and then I could delete the old secrurities which were held in those accounts.

Jonathan Lilleytag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/495299702021-12-06T17:52:41Z2021-12-06T17:52:41ZHow to archive old transactions

Yup MD doesn't let you do this.... Just hide the Securities and hide/inactivate the accounts...

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)
