Why do you want to do this?

If you are concerned about dataset size, try toolbox>
Advanced and hacker mode, Tools menu, shrink dataset (set to 1 day)... It does NOT remove txns but will dramatically reduce your dataset size.. Backup first...

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/505074922022-03-06T19:18:22Z2022-03-06T19:18:22ZData cleanup

In general, we recommend that people use the filters at the top of registers to only display the most relevant information (like This Year), and similar settings for reports. In general trying to remove old transactions creates many issues, which is why we removed that function from older versions.

If you have standard bank accounts, you can perhaps try to do this manually by creating a copy of your data file, deleting the older transactions, and then adjusting your initial balances for every account to take into account what you just removed. However, this won't work for any investment accounts. Removing the historical data means the program won't have information to calculate basic things like cost basis, investment performance over time, etc.

If you are going to try anything like this, make sure to make backups of your data file, as there's no way to undo these level of changes.

I have over 35 years of data, and MD works well. If nothing else, it becomes an interesting diary of what I did way back then - amazing how a check or credit card charge can remind one of a trip or something.
