Hi David

The latest preview build of Moneydance 2022 uses a version of java (Java: 17.0.2 (Eclipse Adoptium)) that is bundled into Moneydance. Its alive and kicking. No need to install java onto your computer. If you did Moneydance simple would not use it.

Hope this helps.

derekkent23tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-03-31T14:00:27Z2023-07-01T01:08:10ZJava

Thanks, I have wanted to remove java for some time now. Web Browsers do not
use it any more.

davwill67tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-04-02T14:20:47Z2023-07-01T01:08:10ZJava

Ok thanks wondering about uninstalling java. I thought I had to for
moneydance now I know that is not the case.

davwill67tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-04-02T14:59:40Z2022-04-02T14:59:40ZJava

@DaveW ?? now I do not have to.

davwill67tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-04-02T22:51:14Z2022-04-02T22:51:14ZJava

You do not need to install any other instance of Java on your computer to use Moneydance. Do not remove the version of Java that is bundled with your installation of Moneydance, or the program won't be able to run.

It is installed under the Moneydance program tree. If Moneydance is uninstalled it gets uninstalled, the only other way of removing is to do it manually, by deleting the directory tree it is installed in.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-04-03T06:07:01Z2022-04-03T06:07:01ZJava

Technically it’s
Java 17.0.2 LTS - Eclipse Temurin. The OpenJDK distribution from Adoptium.

As dwg says, it’s bundled, not installed and exists as part of the moneydance ‘package’.

Note: even a few build ago, it was something else, so this info is not very useful to most people.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-04-03T11:18:29Z2022-04-03T11:18:37ZJava

Is there no means of installing Moneydance without an Intel binary OpenJDK, for those of us on aarch64 who refuse to install an Intel emulator?

john jozwiaktag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/523724822022-04-03T12:02:38Z2022-04-03T12:02:38ZJava

You can launch MD manually using a launch script and swap in whatever Java you like. However, I have no idea if it will do what you require.

that what will be installed is an Intel binary (deep within the included
openjdk presumably), asks if I'd like to install Rosetta, to which i give a
firm no, and thus the installer quits.

Perhaps the trick is to try installing on ARM linux.

just want to support Moneydance and not be using a stupid electricity
