Over the weekend I did some testing with the Dropbox Basic beta version 149.3.4541, set to store files locally. It was installed on my iMac that I had previously removed all references to Dropbox from. It seemed to work perfectly with the default settings for the Dropbox Folder location. However, in other posts, there is discussion about where the Dropbox Folder should, ideally, be and where that folder should reside in Finder.

The default location for the Dropbox Folder appears to be in Macintosh HD/Users/MyName but others report that it should be in ~Library/CloudStorage.

When I installed it in the default location the Folder was shown as a Dropbox Icon in Finder/Favourites. I then did a fresh install in ~Library/CloudStorage and it was then shown as a Folder Icon but still in Finder/Favourites, yet others report that it is shown in Finder/Locations where OneDrive currently resides.

My query is, does it make any difference where the Dropbox Folder is installed or where it is displayed in Finder?

peter3tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/542998422022-05-16T10:19:52Z2022-05-16T10:19:52ZOptimum Location for Dropbox Folder on Silicon Mac

I don’t follow your question exactly. But yes the location of DB matters if you are using DB folders. If you are using DB connection, then it doesn't matter (to MD).

If DB folder is in /users/name and then .moneydancesync then MD will work

If it gets moved elsewhere then you have to switch to shared folders and point MD to the right place.

Stuart Beesley (Mr Toolbox)tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/542998422022-05-16T10:25:18Z2022-05-16T10:25:18ZOptimum Location for Dropbox Folder on Silicon Mac

'I don’t follow your question exactly.'

Sorry, it was difficult to explain exactly what I meant but you have answered my question perfectly as I hadn't taken account of the shared folders settings.

Many thanks.

peter3
