Mobile app file switching and backup
Re: the iOS/iPadOS apps.
1. How do open a different data file? On my PC I use two files, Personal and Other, and switch between the two using File > Open. I don't see anything in the mobile app settings that would let me do this.
2. How does auto backup work? On my PC when I add a new transaction and then close MD I can see the timestamp on the moneydancearchive file change. I don't see it change when using the mobile app.
3. How can I do a manual backup?

Hi,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
1) Launch Moneydance again on your computer and open the file you wish to sync first.
- Then you should navigate to File->Syncing and choose Dropbox Folder.
With "Dropbox Folder" you need to have Dropbox installed and running on your computer.
Launch the mobile app and choose the same file as your computer.
Enter your Password to match the Passphrase on your computer.
Finally, enter a "dummy"" transaction on each device and allow a few seconds for them to sync. They should display exactly the same transactions.
2) Moneydance creates an automatic backup file each time you close your file, until the set number exist, then each file will be updated in turn.
When these files are stored in the default location, they're accessible from Moneydance via Help --> Show Backup Folder.
In order to amend the backup file settings, you can choose Moneydance --> Preferences, then select the 'Backups' tab, as outlined in this article of the Knowledge Base.
From this window, you can amend the backup location, and choose the maximum number of backups to be stored.
It is possible to amend the backup location, to ensure the automatic backup files are sent elsewhere. For example, one could choose an external drive, or a shared folder location like Dropbox, iCloud etc. This will make your data accessible from another system, even if you were to encounter complete computer failure, for instance.
You can also create manual backup files whenever you require, and store these files to a location of you choice.
3) To create a manual backup file, you should choose File --> Export Backup. This will create a .moneydancearchive backup file - the same format as the auto backup files.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.
