Encryption password
Hi,
I'm on a new Mac and trying to sync my Dropbox Moneydance files. When I'm asked to enter my file encryption pasword, the "finish" box remains greyed out. No matter what I fill in, it doesn't turn blue to advance.
Attached photo (of course just a sample password).
Can anybody please let me know what I'm missing?

Thank you Stuart. Where can I find the Dropbox Client for Moneydance? Or did you mean the Mac Dropbox Client. This is already installed and fully synched with the Dropbox cloud.

So Moneydance / File / New / Open sync’d file / Dropbox folders / try again.

Thanks again for your help and time.
I can’t access the file menu as I’ve no Moneydance data file yet. I’ve followed your instructions and as you can see from the screenshots, I am connected to Dropbox, but Moneydance has the “finish” button greyed-out on the Encryption Pasword page. So I can not get into my file on Dropbox.

Have you restarted MD?
So you are on the welcome screen?
Has it asked you to select DB Folders or DB Connection?

Yes, on the Welcome screen. I have tried both options, without getting past the Encryption Password screen. The “finish” button remains greyed out.

It's very odd as this is the error:
But the code throwing this error is simply checking for std characters in the path... It looks fine to me...
So I'm wondering if you have a folder permission problem of some sort (a guess)... Can you go to Finder, find the dropbox folder. Press CMD-SHIFT-. (that's a DOT) to view hidden files. Then go into .moneydancesync and check out the contents and permissions... Does all look ok?
However, you shouldn't be getting this with DB Folders, so need to see latest console.
Also, what MacOS version are you on? Is this 13 (Ventura)? Wondering if this is a version issue?

Yes this is what I see and I can see an old and current Moneydance file on Dropbox. I can not send you the help/console input as I can not get past the Encryption Password page, where the “finish” box continues to be greyed out.
This is a great program, but synching as been an issue for 10+ years. So complicated

When you see the greyed out box, then kill the app and before you restart MD, find the file errlog.txt on disk and upload that. It will be somewhere in
/Users/qd/Library/Containers/com.infinitekind.MoneydanceOSX/

Dear Stuart,
I have no idea what happened, but all of a sudden the file synched. So all good now.
Thanks for your help, but I continue to find it “scary” not to be able to access the “master file”. Opening Moneydance file locations show a number of cryptic subfolders. No idea why MD just can’t have 1 file that syncs.

The ‘master file’ is a file called trunk within the xxx.moneydance / tiksync / safe folder. What actually syncs is 1st trunk and from then onwards, every change syncs (the .txn and .mdtxn files). Hence sync is quick and takes micro seconds. To sync a 300MB file might take a looooong time each time there is a change.

To just sync a single file would prevent being able to have multiple users each working on the same data simultaneously.
