<p>You can change the security name to anything you will
like.<br></p>
<p>On your first import Moneydance will ask you to match the
security to one already in Moneydance. If the security does not
exist, it will create one for you. It will have the long name, but
you can change it to whatever you want.</p>
<p>I have my Vanguard securities set-up using the Ticker as
Security ID (also the Ticker Symbol) and the name I prefer. All of
this can be changed after you do your first import.</p>

edit and click on the 'Securities Detail' button near the top of
the account window. In the upper right hand corner of the resulting
window, click on the double pointed arrows and select the security
that you want to edit from the drop down menu. When you have the
security selected, click on the 'History' button. In the resulting
window, click on the 'Edit...' button. You can then change the
security name in the next window. HTH -Kevin N.</p></div>-Kevin N.tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/11896402010-03-12T05:42:21Z2010-03-12T05:42:21ZCan I shorten my Vanguard fund names?<div><p>OK, thx, but I understand how to edit securities. Maybe I should
have asked this another way. Some data is importing in a strange
way from Vanguard, and I wondered if MD was having a hard time
associating the security properly.</p>
<p>For example, in some VG accts, the share price comes in greyed
out as "10000" I don't know where this number comes from and I
don't want to mess up my transaction records tweaking this. Is this
a MD bug or a placeholder of some sort?</p>
<p>thx,<br>

<p>I don't import my Vanguard transactions (don't like how they
create their files) and do a manual workaround using their csv file
cleaned up in Excel and converting to a QIF file.</p>
<p>No, I don't think your problem is with matching, nor without
looking at the data and I don't believe it is a problem. In my
Charles Schwab Account (which I do download), a straight DIV
transaction has a Price of 10000. I think MD needs a Price, so it
supplies this number. If I do a Scheduled Transaction in MD for the
Dividend, the Price is 1. Again, MD is not doing anything with this
number.</p>

of a placeholder. I'm struggling about exactly how to set up my
accounts and use MD. I would like to download my VG items, but like
you I don't like how they come into MD. I read in another post that
you did a csv to QIF conversion and searched around but did not
find anything satisfactory. Could you please post how you did
it?</p>
<p>thx,<br>

some issues with how their QFX files are set up. They told me they
are aware of an issue and are working on it. As far as this thread
goes, after much testing, I can say that VG security names can be
shortened in MD. Any problems with the imported data are NOT
because of shortening the name. So, although Vanguard recommends
against doing this, it is not a source of problems.</p>
