copying cagtegories from one file to another
I would like to use the same categories from one file to another which I set up for this year's accounts. Is there a way to copy the old categories into my new file?

A function to do that has been talked about but I do not think it has come to fruition.
I can think of a number of ways of doing this all a little fiddle, some more than others.
One way is to use Moneydance to export a QIF file of ALL data. Then use the Toolbox extension and the option "Older QIF import and set parameters" on the general menu to go through the motions of importing but to choose the option for account and category setup only.
Another way is to backup the existing data data set, restoring it and ensuring you select to not retain sync settings if you have the option which creates a new data set, then going through and removing the data from each account.

Toolbox, clone dataset will / can create a copy with no actual txns.

If Stuarts extension Toolbox helps depends on what you are trying to do.
Toolbox can clone a data set. In the Clone data set all your categories still exist along with your accounts but all the transactions have been deleted. Securities still exist along with their last dated price and current price. If you don’t want any or all of the accounts and securities you can manually delete them.
If you want to try it the process is as follows:
Install TOOLBOX from under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSION and run TOOLBOX
Tick UPDATE MODE. After you follow the process to turn on Update Mode click MENU ADVANCE OPTIONS – CLONE DATASET’S STRUCTURE (PURGE TRANSACTION DATA) and PROCEED following the instructions.

I purchased MoneyDance on 1/12/20 license key . I have been told I was using a free trial, but I have all prior year's data. How do I remove the restriction?
Now I had to upgrade on 12/31, but have not received any communication from infiintekind about how to access my account. Please avise.

You should have received an email from Paddle that contains your license key which you then enter into Moneydance to unlock the limit. Make sure you also check your junk email folder just in case.
