How to split categories on investment transactions

I have my pension deposited to investment account so I can invest those funds. With that check there is of course govt withholding. There doesn't appear to be a 'split' feature on the category portion of the transaction entry. Does this feature not exist on an account classified as an 'investment' account? If that is the case, this is very disappointing.

There are two registers associated with Investment Account.

The Investment register is the top level register but it really only handles transactions that are related to investing. Then there is the Bank Register. This is a sub-register that can handle your normal type of banking transactions like splits.

So it has to be a ‘bank account’ to record withholding portion of a deposit. Can’t split ‘iinvestment account’ in true sense to get accurate md reporting for income and expenses?  If so that’s disappointing as I always felt Md is as close as one can get to double entry bookkeeping.

It is not a different account just a different register. The Investment register only knows how to handle a set of pre-defined investment actions.

The bank Register knows how to handle banking type transaction, if you enter something into the Bank register then switch to the Investment register it will show up as an Xfr Transaction. Everything is still in the Investment register, it is just not necessarily their in a friendly or obvious way.

The Bank Register is a subset view of the account and only shows transactions it knows about. The investment registers shows all transactions but in a way that makes sense based on its capabilities.

I have an idea I am going to try. Go to a bank register and enter a zero dollar disbursement then use split that increases income and records the withholding. I bet that will work as a reminder transaction as well.
