If you mean the password that you set on your dataset that is requested when MD launches, then no, if you've lost it, then it's not recoverable.

OR - do you mean your sync password?

I assume you cannot get into MD?

    (What version)

    Hi Cian,
We are sorry to hear about the problem you have encountered.

Can you let us know which password do you need?

Is it the Master Password you're prompted for each time you access your file?
Or the encryption password you need to access your sync data?

Unfortunately if the Master Password is lost, your data cannot be retrieved. When you create the Master Password you'll be advised your data cannot be recovered if you forget the password. This is why we recommend you choose the password and hint carefully.

The encryption (syncing) password will be accessible from within the data file you originally setup syncing from. Open the file and choose File --> Syncing, then select 'Show Passphrase'.
If you don't have access to the original file, you can try entering the encryption password as many times as you need - the 'Finish' button won't become selectable until the correct password has been entered.

Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

    Hi Maddy
Unfortunately it's the Master - I didn't get a hint at any stage when
    passwords didn't work.

    Many thanks

Within your dataset folder, at the root, there is a plain text file called ‘key’. Open it. Can you see the hint in there?

    Windows or Mac?

    Hi Stuart
    Using Windows
I found the "key" plain text file - contains a lot of numbers and letters -
    nothing that makes sense.

    Thanks
    Cian

If there is a hint is at the very end of the line and it looks like:

    &hint=password

    Where "password" is your hint.

    Unfortunately not.
Just :userpass=1&key= lots of numbers and letter
Need to try and recall the password mentally.

    Thanks for your help

Yup. So you did not set a hint.

The good news is that you can keep guessing forever. The file won’t self-destruct or lock or anything
