Budget Interval

Hi there

I am trying to create my first budget and I am putting in all my various incomes to start with. Some of my income is weekly and some is every 4 weeks. When scheduling them as recurring transaction I was able to set the 4 weekly intervals through putting them as daily to repeat every 28 days yet when making a budget there is no option to do this. It seems strange to have weekly, bi weekly, tri-weekly then monthly with no 4 weekly option.

Am I missing where this is or is there another way to set it as 4 weekly. Without that option it renders my use of the budget feature useless.

    Hi Daniel

There is currently no way to set a budget interval to 4 weeks. I have reated a suggestion ticket for this feature. Here si the link to the ticket:

If you register and log into trac you can vote on tickets.

I am sorry if this does not meet your needs.

    Sincerely

Thanks Ben, at least if nothing else I can stop looking for it now.

It is a minor issue at the moment and something I can manage without all being well. I just hope it can be added in future as I can't see any reason why it would not be there to start with. It just seems all the "non quicken/msmoney" software packages have the same problems with intervals and forecasting.

I would like to see more options for time selections in the budget bars on the home page. I have set up MD to use the envelope budgeting and I have it going pretty well. I have my budget set up on a 2 week system as I get paid every weeks. My envelopes get funded every 2 weeks. The night before pay day I usually clear out all of my envelopes to $0 to get ready for the new funding and try to utilize the snow ball idea to move extra money I might have left to a debt. I currently use the homepage budget bars to give me a graphical view of how much money I have left in my envelopes. It starts off at the designated fund and as I spend it goes down. Very nice and easy to see how much money I have left to use. The only way that I can get the correct amounts to show up and to keep track as I spend is to use the year to date set up for the budget bars. Although that is nice to see how much I have budgeted in that envelope for the year, most of the time I would rather just see the 2 weeks period that I am in. This is not an option in the bars. Is it possible to add a view for the current 2 weeks. Maybe based upon your budget dates?

I have several requirements to enter 4 weekly recurring data, this option is a must.

This is major for me. I have just spent ages changing my accounts from Quicken to Moneydance only to find out that I can not set up a memorized transaction for every 4 weeks on the same day of the week. I could do it in Quicken.

I don't know if this helps, but I'll offer it to you.

There are several different ways you can set up a memorized reminders/transaction. You can use the daily option to set up a biweekly paycheck for example, you can use the weekly setting and set your day of the week and then choose which week of the month it repeats on, or the monthly setting to choose a specific date.

I have most of my transactions populated from these reminders and I populate them 7 days ahead so I can know my future balance. Once you have your reminders set up, you can use a modified balance predictor (that in my opinion is better than the standard one offered through MD) that will allow you to see your future balance and also lists the transcations.

You can set up a memorized transaction to occur every 4 weeks on the same day of the week.

On the reminder select the daily tab and set the reminder to repeat every 28 days.

Similarly if you want a transaction to repeat every 2 weeks use 14 days, and 7 days for every week.
