Export a File
It's been a while since I've done this. I exported a file to another person because they were taking over a treasurer function. When they did that it was deleted from my computer.
Now they want to give me a datafile to import into my MoneyDance to temporarily take over their function. What is the best way to do this? Is it important that they keep the existing datafile on their version or simply have it removed from their MoneyDance. We do not want to sync.

Export a backup on their system, import it on yours.
Then you can reverse the process when they import it it will have a different name in that a date time stamp will be added so they will have two data sets, they can delete/rename as appropriate.
None of this removes or deletes any data files only humans can do that with Moneydance.
Ensure you are running compatible versions of Moneydance on both machines.

To add to the above response, make sure the use the File -> Export Backup option. The other export options will produce formats that are much more limited than a full Moneydance data file (like a QIF file), likely resulting in data loss.
