Help,
I am a Mac user. I have just been offered a free upgrade to v2024.1 (5118) and as I have done many times before accepted the upgrade. The install appeared to go well, but now MD is saying it is unregistered. I have requested my key from the Infinite Kind site, which arrives by email but Moneydance does nor recognise it, throwing an error message saying its incorrect. The check licence option on the Infinite Lind also doesn't recognise the key I've been sent.
Can someone help please?

    I'm a fellow user.

You do not say what version of license you have so suspect the following is what has happened,

Some users with a Moneydance 2022 license can use 2024.0 but not 2024.1

The problem is that the initial release of Moneydance 2024 in some cases accepted license keys purchased for 2022 as a free upgrade when it should not have. This has been corrected for Moneydance 2024.1, but the updater will not say that it is a paid for upgrade because the updater thinks the software already has a valid 2024 license for people who have only purchased 2022. The updater cannot be changed to recognize this as the problem is in Moneydance 2024.0 itself.

The Moneydance upgrade policy is that purchasing a license entitles you to use that version of Moneydance plus a free upgrade to the next major release.

Moneydance versions 2022, 2023 and 2024 are all considered major versions.

You have a number of choices:

    1. You can downgrade to the version you were previously on. There have not been any data format changes in the latest release.

    2. You can upgrade to the latest release at a discount https://infinitekind.com/update

This oversight has just been an unfortunate error. Your entitlements remain as they have been for many years.

Unfortunately these glitches happen at times.

    Hi dwg,
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what you mean by 'version of licence' I've been using MD since 2015 I've gone back through my records and it looks like my last upgrade payment for MD was in 2022. I had updated to 2024.0 as a free upgrade, but from what you are saying, I shouldn't have been able to do that. I'm happy to upgrade to the current version at the discounted price but when I enter the licence key IF have sent me in the link you included in your post, it's not recognised. If i downgrade to a 2023 version, what will happen to my data? I won't lose it will I?

    1) If you downgrade to 2023.3(5064) you will lose no data, your old license will work.

    2) The version 5118 you now have (unregistered) still has your 2022 license within it, but 5118 rejects it. Since the license is in there you should see Upgrade and Enter License buttons at the end of the grey line saying "100 transaction limit".

Click the upgrade button and it should take you an upgrade page, and also recognize you get a significant discount. This will give you a new license key good for all of 2024 and 2025 (just as 2022 was good for 2022 and 2023)

dtd, thank you. I’ve just spotted the upgrade button and yes, that does give me a generous discount. Thanks again both to you and dwg for taking the time to explain in such clear detail. Very much appreciated.

Upgraded Licence purchase made. New licence key received. All now up and running and panic over. Again, many thanks to both dwg & dtd for their help.

Thanks for the very useful information dwg and dtd. I'm wondering how you knew it, since you're both fellow users rather than official representaitves.

Is there some announcement/PSA information sytem I should be following, or did you just see someone official provide that information in response to another thread here?

I knew about it because I was caught in it (I had a 2022 license) and I walked through the entire process to upgrade and encountered exactly what others encountered.

When I upgraded to 2024(5117) for free, I thought at first that (I made this up in my head) - that IK had declared 2023 as not a major release (this happened in 2020 I think) so 2024 was allowed for 2022 users. [I was wrong, of course]

StuartBeesley, derekkent23, dwg, dtd, and a few other users do converse with each other because of our heavy participation. We also look at all the change logs (https://infinitekind.com/previewdl/current/changelog.txt) and are volunteers for alpha and beta testing.

So I guess if there was "official information" - it came from that link:
    Moneydance 2024.1 build 5118 (Fri, 19 Apr 2024 13:45:00 +0000)
***Please note that if you have not purchased a Moneydance 2023 or 2024 license, this update may require a paid upgrade. The previous update may have incorrectly run as a free upgrade in some situations.***

That text also appears when you upgrade from 2024.0(5117) - but I think I (and others) focused on it saying "free upgrade" versus reading this text.

So TL/DR - some of us are here way too much, but we like to help, including testing, so we figure things out fairly quickly, have done it enough to be 98% accurate (then fix the 2% if we end up wrong) and we do talk to each other....

    Hope that helps.

A few of us, arguable, get way too involved with Moneydance :)

When the problem came up I chatted to the developer about what was being reported, the cause was discovered fairly quickly, within a few days and we had build 5118 which corrected the problem.

You can probably think of it that the first version of 2024 was acting as if it was Moneydance 2023 in terms of checking entitlements.

Unfortunately these things happen at times.
