Attachments
Morning,
I have started using the feature to attach invoices to individual entries a lot more recently. Does anyone know know if this will gradually affect the performance of Moneydance i.e. will it take longer to load or possibly run more sluggishly in use?
The size of the data file is not a problem per se, although it is already quite large with 30+ years of data in it.
Thanks.

The only effect it will have is on backup times, especially if you have large attachments, I would suggest with any images you minimize their size before you attach them.
Attachments are stored separately in their own folder within the data set, in the data file itself all that exists is a pointer to the file on disk so they do not affect things like load times or make any difference in the use of Moneydance.

Have you tried "shrink database" in toolbox?
And yes, attach invoices will obviously make the database larger quickly. The attachments might even become larger than the database.
(I have nearly 40 years in mine, but I don't do attachments)
But no, the attachments shouldn't slow down the program.

Hence don’t attach 10MB attachments for example. They really should only be a few bytes each.

Thanks for the replies - this is reassuring.
For information, I only attach .pdf files and invoices supplied by retailers tend to be plain text so quite small.
Best wishes.

I'd watch PDF files too, some can be quite bloated and can benefit by being shrunk, some programs create quite good ones others .....
