Hi

I have looked at other threads that address my problem but haven't been able find a solution so far

I am trying to import months of data from HSBC, and as HSBC don't allow for download of transactions from older statements I had to copy and paste the data from the web page and then copy and paste it in an excel doc to get it into a layout that might be more easily imported

I'm working on a mac, and using Excel 2011

i tried saving the file as a .csv, in excel and then importing using the text file importer in the extensions menu. used utf-8 encoding, only one values column with positive and negative values in it, changed the date so it's in the correct date format

24/07/2013,CASH HALIFAX JUL24,-20.00

above is a line from the csv file when opened in text edit

I'm stumped, I would enter all the transactions manually and just make sure that I download recent transactions when I can but it's huge job to enter them all manually so any help would be very gratefully received.

I do not know if it works on the Mac version of Office but there is an Excel to QIF converter that could possibly provide you with a QIF file from your data that you could import into MD.

    Hi Dave,

I was able to successfully import a .CSV file using the Text File Importer extension with the line:
    24/07/2013,CASH HALIFAX JUL24,-20.00

I set up the extension as follows:
    Screen 1:
Browse - navigate to your .CSV file.
    Encoding - UTF-8
    Click 'Next'.

    Screen 2:
Account - select the desired account to import the data into.
    Fields Delimiter - [ , ] - (comma)
    Date Format - DMY
    Decimal Point - . - (period)
    Click 'Next'.

    Screen 3:
    Field 1 - Date
    Field 2 - Description
    Field 3 - Amount

Click the 'Less Fields' button so that you have only the required 3 fields.

    Click 'Finish'.

Post import, you may need to delete the header row (if any) that may have also been imported.

    Hi Dave,

You're welcome. I'm glad to hear that you got it to work.

I don't know why but it appears that the import will fail if more than the required number of fields are displayed on screen 3 of the TFI.

I have tried to import a csv file for a credit card account using this procedure and the one in the closed discussion on text file import, but it is not working. I created a custom reader and saved it, but it does not appear in the list of available readers. What do I do next?
