Merging transactions with Tax Date enabled
I've been using Moneydance for a few months. I have regularly recorded the initiation dates of new transactions in the Date field for each transaction when it is created (usually by importing from .qif files generated by Excel files). I recently realized I could enable the Tax Date feature on the Preferences page. With Tax Date enabled, changing the entry in the Date field to the posting date of the transaction automatically pushes the initiation date into the Tax Date field, as long as it's done manually, one transaction at a time. It doesn't work using the batch command, which just changes the dates, but doesn't push the initiation dates into the Tax Date field. And it doesn't work when merging downloaded transactions (which have the posting date in their Date field).
I, at least, would find it very useful to have the merging feature keep all the data from my imported transaction, but move the existing date to the Tax Date field and put the posting date of the downloaded transaction in the Date field. If there is already a way to accomplish this, please let me know. If there is a way to import a Tax Date as well as a Date using a .qif file or .csv file or some other file type, that would be great. If it seems like a problem best solved with a script or an extension, I might try that.
Thanks,
