2025 version?

This year is going differently than past years in terms of the lack of beta updates and no 2025 version yet. Should we be concerned about the ongoing development of Moneydance?

You should not be concerned about the ongoing development.

All alpha and. beta updates went against the 2024 version in early 2025 rather than on a 2025 version, as there were updates that needed to be made without skipping final 2024 users who might not want to upgrade to 2025. The final version of 2024, 2024.4(5253), was released Feb 20, 2025. [Normally a 2025 version would be released in late 2024, some 2026 versions for software are being released now.]

That obviously opens up questions about timing for versions and year numbers for MD.

MD/IK does not announce plans and timings, but there is movement to a "next year" version. As to when, again MD/IK doesn't announce such.

I am a tester of the software, not a part of MD/IK.

That makes sense. I appreciate the response. I didn't mean any offense by the question. Like many people I am sure, I've had my share of full app changes, back to the Parson's Technology MoneyCounts days, then Microsoft Money, Adarian Money, Quicken and now Moneydance since 2017. Those changes are never fun. I was just curious if another one was in our future. Good to know it's not. This is a great product.

Moneydance does not have any strict timetable regarding releases. I have seen a version released towards the end of the previous year after which it is named, I have also seen it released at the end of the year of which it is named. There have been occasions when there has not been a yearly release as well.

Many changes and fixes were put into the final 2024 release, rather than being held over. The thinking put forward for doing that was to make for a more solid 2024 release as well as to take pressure off having an early 2025 release for primarily bug fixes, so giving more time for new development to take place.

The testers have no idea when we will see the next version and TiK does not announce it. We occasionally hear what direction the product is going in, but I do not think anything definite has been announced.

    Hi Jeff,
I noticed you’ve received a helpful reply from one of our knowledgeable Moneydance users. To build on that, I wanted to let you know that we’ve flagged this discussion, and you’ll be notified as soon as a new version is released.

I'm not sure why anyone would say that it's good to know there isn't a new version on the horizon. Just because one is released doesn't mean you have to partake in the "fun."

Some of us wait because of the upgrade policy and we don't wish to pay for 2024 when 2025 may be right around the corner as you would be eligible to get 2025, but not 2026 whenever it should arrive.

I for one enjoy new features and still believe a built-in, custom report tool would be an awesome new feature as I have a significant dislike for the limitations of the Transaction Filter and Transactions reporting tools.

I think what jeffcarp meant was good to know that a full app change isn't on the horizon, not a new version of MD. I was an MS Money user too and remember how that went, starting with no new development. That's when I switched to Moneydance, instead of Quicken which offered a custom conversion tool. I'm glad I did, especially after following some recent discussions in the Quicken Community forum.

I am in the same situation. I also have some budget left, but I'm waiting on the next big release to buy for an upgrade.

As best some of us can tell, the next version will be 2026 (it is December after all) but as to when that will drop is hard to tell, testers are waiting for the first testing version.

I'm a fellow customer and also a tester.

It is safe to say there will not be a Moneydance 2025, personally I would not be expecting an early release in 2026, we have seen nothing to test.

There has been no indication for what new features will be included. At times we do see some indications of "direction" but that can be a quite different to what is included, it would not be the first time I have seen a feature start to be included then dropped.

Through forum responses you can get some idea of the fixes and refinements that will happen, I do not keep a list.

Having no updates is frustrating because there is a lot to work on: iCloud sync is still unusable. The iOS app is only usable to do basic data entry. Graphs and charts are cryptic at best. Does anyone know of another app that allows real work to be done on a iPad or iOS app? I'm at the point where I can go iPad only, Moneydance is the one app that makes that not possible in its current state. I'm willing to lose years of old data to be able to have a way to reconcile accounts and view charts and graphs on an iPad.

If you are asking what Application can replace Moneydance and be used on an iPad you are asking in the wrong place. These are Moneydance forums after all, not alternative software forums.

My wish-list for the next version, hope to see at least 1-2 of these!

    1. Fidelity transaction download support via Moneydance+ See https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/general-questions/24...
    2. Investment transaction merging (we've been requesting this for 15+ years!) see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/general-questions/21...
    3. Full featured Ipad version see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/17130-fu...
    4. Use system credential store for master password see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/discussions/suggestions/17411-us...
    5. Ability to create Rules that can be applied to downloaded transactions to allow automatic renaming & categorization, rather than the current opaque matching system (pretty much every competitor has this feature)

These are Moneydance forums, sure, but users are here because they want solutions. If the only allowed topic is how to make do with what’s broken or missing, then the conversation becomes pointless. People will naturally ask about alternatives when their needs aren’t met—and discouraging that discussion doesn’t help anyone. Let’s focus on being constructive, not gatekeeping what questions get asked.
