I am trying to generate annual reports showing what my apartment rentals brought in and cost me in 2009. How do I go about doing this? In the advanced search area, I don't see how to search by category only. I have separate categories set up for each of these areas in one account and I am using MD1010 on a Mac.

Thanks!

I would use either the Income & Expense report or Detailed Income & Expense report (MD 2010r3 (751)). Open either one from the Side Bar by clicking once on the name. The report will open in the main window. Running at the top right of the report are a series of buttons beginning with Edit. Click the Edit button. Select the Date (Last Year). If you want to select all transactions across all accounts then I would leave the Accounts field as the default: All Accounts. Otherwise click the Select button to the right and choose the accounts you want to include. Next, go to the line that is right above the box that contains the options All Expense, All Income. This line begins with the word "Select:" and is followed by highlighted words "All," "None," etc. Still further along the line is "Show". Next to this option select "by Individual" by clicking on the words. This will produce a list of all your categories. Since they are all highlighted, click the word "None" on that same line to clear the check marks. Now go down the list and select the individual categories you want to include in the report. Click OK to run the report.

    Luke,

Jbnyt's advice is excellent. Once you run this report you may want to click on "Memorize" to save this report's preferences for the next time you would like to run this particular type of report. Good luck, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
