Can I create a new set of accounts retaining all categories and account details?

Over many years my account balances have become out of kilter, probably because of small errors along the way and / or my failure to enter all cash transactions. It would be an impossible job to go back through every account and reconcile them against my paper statements and receipts (if I even had all of those).

So I need to adjust the balances. Is there any way that I can start a new set of accounts, say from the beginning of this tax year, but retain all the existing account details and categories that I have previously created? Or can anyone suggest a different way of getting my Moneydance account balances to tally with reality?

    Hi Jessica,

To accomplish this, I would suggest making a backup copy of your data set by going to File -> "Export Backup" and naming the backup the name of the new file you want to create. After that, open the backup in Moneydance by going to File -> Import, then once the backup file has been opened, you can delete the accounts by going to Tools -> Accounts or, if you'd like to keep the accounts but clean them out, go into the register of each account by selecting it on the left sidebar column, then click on any transaction in the register and press Ctrl + A (or Cmd + A on a Mac) to select all the transactions in the register and press delete on your keyboard to delete them all. Do this for as many accounts as you want to clear out. Then, if you want to delete any other data (like reminders), do so, and you should be at a fresh start with your categories.

I hope that helps! Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!
