Is there a way to navigate the split window with the keyboard? Specifically moving down to the next split to change one that has been autofilled (automatically provided).

Also, can I delete a split without having to point at the delete split button?

Here is our FAQ on keyboard shortcuts: http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/frequently-asked-questions-2/keyboa...

Also if you delete the transaction where the balance is held then all the splits are deleted as well. I.E. if you write a check with 3 splits then deleting the check will delete the splits. If you only delete one o the individual splits it will just adjust the check to the remaining two splits.

    Hope this helps

A further question about navigating a split window using only the keyboard.

I have set up a transaction reminder for my paycheck. I click on the reminder and thereby bring up the "Reminder Notification" window. In this window there are many splits set up to track pre-tax transfers, withholding, dues, transfers to savings, etc. These categories are consistent from check to check; however, the amounts usually vary somewhat. It it therefore necessary for me to navigate extensively through the split transaction window, editing as I go. I would LOVE to do this sans mouse.

I start by typing Command-L to open the split window. My cursor automatically is placed within the first line of the split. I adjust the Payment or Deposit amount as necessary.

Here's where I get stuck when trying to navigate solely by keyboard. How do I get in to edit that next line and those thereafter?
--If I hit TAB I move around in a loop within the same line.

--If I use the arrow keys I move around within a single cell.

--If I hit ENTER I do move to the next line of the split, but the entire line is selected. I don't seem to be able to get into the line to edit it without using my mouse.

--If I hit Command-N I create a new split line below all the existing split lines.

I have looked at the keyboard shortcuts FAQ but haven't noticed anything that addresses this navigational issue.

Is it possible to edit this and other similar transactions without using the mouse?

    Thank you.

    Hi cornellflip,

--If I hit ENTER I do move to the next line of the split, but the entire line is selected. I don't seem to be able to get into the line to edit it without using my mouse.

Hit ENTER to move to the next split. Hit ENTER again to put the split into 'Edit' mode, TAB to the Payment or Deposit field. This works in Windows, I can't speak to the Mac OS.

The up and down arrows move to the previous/next split, and leave the target split line in edit mode, although in the first field of the line. (In previous versions of MD, the same column was selected.) You CAN totally edit splits with the keyboard (including cmd/ctrl-W to close the splits window), so ask again if you find yourself still grabbing the mouse.

It's worth noting that in the current version the total is only updated when you go to another split line. (This may be improved in future versions -- many of us have complained because it used to update more quickly.)

Unfortunately the keyboard shortcut FAQ is mostly silent on shortcuts useful in split editing.

And one place where there's no keyboard shortcut I know of is when you finish editing an upcoming transaction and want to record it. Tab will not take you to the Record button; you have to grab the mouse.

    Hi Edward,
Key combo ALT - R Records an edited Reminder. Again I'm speaking for Windows.
