I am looking for whether moneydance can be setup to automatically categorize a payee based on a name in the payee field?

    Hi Steve,

Moneydance learns how to categorize your transactions as you categorize them during the confirmation process from downloading or importing your transactions. Once you do that, then Moneydance will remember your categorizations and automatically use them for the future.

Please let us know if we can be of further assistance!

So since I imported my bank data and catagorize the payees, from now on
these payees will automatically be assign that category? If that is the
case, is there a way to catagorize based on a payee containing a specific
name in case there is information in the payee field that may change?

    Hi Steve,

Yes, if you configured the categories during the confirmation process (rather than after), Moneydance will remember the categories and use them in the confirmation process.

Unfortunately it's not possible to setup rules to assign categories automatically, however if Payee's change, Moneydance will learn the changes from the confirmation process.

    Hi Steve,

You can read about it in our user guide, located here:

    http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/user-guides/moneydance-2015-user-guide

    starting on page 38.

In addition, if you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free trial version and experiment with the program before you decide if you would like to purchase it. The demo version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test connections with your bank. If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all your data, the license key simply unlocks the ability to manually enter more transactions. You can download the trial version of Moneydance from here:

    http://infinitekind.com/downloads

For more information on how to get the most out of your trial period, check out our blog post on the subject.
