Downloading from Vanguard (multiple accounts)
Apologies if this is a multiple posting. I tried to post this question yesterday but it didn’t seem to come through -- at least, I can’t find it.
I’ve got a problem downloading transactions from Vanguard. I hope there’s a solution.
The simple form of the problem is that I have investment accounts with Vanguard. Vanguard keeps two different accounts, one of which contains Vanguard funds and the other of which is a brokerage account containing stocks. Both are accessed with the same password and user name.
I’ve successfully gotten the mutual fund account to download. But the brokerage transactions aren’t coming through. I tried creating a separate account for that (in Quicken, I’d been keeping all the information in one account), but when I try to set up online banking for the brokerage account, Moneydance just downloads the transactions from the mutual fund account. I think I recall that when I set the mutual fund account up, I got a window with multiple account numbers and was asked to choose which one. That window no longer shows up.
(The problem is actually a little more complicated. My wife and I have multiple Vanguard accounts -- a joint account, separate accounts for each of us, and IRAs (one for me, two for my wife). We access them through only two passwords.)
Help! I’d really like to stop having to enter all my Vanguard transactions by hand. I seem to be so close, but not there yet.

Lofty,
This is almost certainly a mapping issue. When setting up a direct connection you will see several screens. First you'll select the bank you want to connect with. Then you'll screen where you select the Moneydance account you are setting up (see Account Mapping screenshot 1). Then a box will pop up asking you to enter your user name and password. After you do this, it will take you back to screenshot one which offers you a next option. This is a bit confusing- what is actually happening is that Moneydance is talking to your bank's server, and you should NOT be clicking next from the screenshot 1 interface. You will wait a few moments and then a box will pop up asking you which of your online accounts you want to connect with the Moneydance account you have selected (See account mapping screenshot 2).
I hope this helps, I personally have several accounts at one bank and Moneydance deals with them appropriately when I went through the process above, AND I recognize it is confusing. We are working on improving this interface for future versions of Moneydance.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
