Fidelity Access
If I understand correctly Fidelity is replacing use of direct connect / OFX protocol with a new protocol referred to as "Fidelity Access". From what I can see Moneydance (and Quicken) do not (yet?) support this new protocol.
This is important in that Fidelity has indicated the continued use of MoneyDance then violates their lost funds replacement guarantee due to use of nonapproved 3rd party. Note that their use of term "3rd Party" seems different than infinitekind.
I note that Vanguard has also stopped use of OFX and does not seem to have a replacement intent. Have to use downloads by account.
Can anyone at Moneydance provide current status of this? Will Moneydance be updated to support Fidelity Access?

Hi, thanks to @dwg for pointing me to this thread. I'm getting an error when adding the extension. I downloaded the zip file from post 247 and changed the extension to .mxt. I'm attaching both here as reference. Anybody have any idea why I'm getting such error? I'm using an older version of MD, specifically v2021.1 (3069). Could that be the reason why?
272 Posted by dwg on 06 Jan, 2026 09:55 PM
Yes using Moneydance 2021 is likely to be the problem.
There have been changes in more recent versions of Moneydance.

As a long time Moneydance user - and someone who has generally had a positive experience with Moneydance overall - I am going to make the difficult decision to move away later this month due to the Fidelity issue. I realize the issue was not caused by MD and appreciate that there are efforts both by MD and users independently to try to resolve, I just can't go on using MD as a platform. The unfortunate fact is that its easier to move away from MD (though will still be painful) than to move from Fidelity. I'm bummed about it, but just don't have the technical expertise or time to deal with this going forward. Though I prefer a local data option, I think Monarch seems to be the best alternative option out there so that's where I am headed. Thank you to the MD team for the years of support.

Thanks @dwg for your assumption that the 2021 version is the culprit of my issue. I will happily upgrade to the new version once a permanent fix is in place for the Fidelity API. Any timeline on that would be helpful.

I just spoke with Fidelity Electronic Channel Support (ECS) team and was told that Fidelity has switched to the more secure Financial Data Exchange (FDX) format. That sounds like a valid answer. I don't recall seeing FDX in the chat dialog here but it's been a few weeks and I've been hoping for a solution that minimizes my effort vs. going down a GitHub path.
So - Can Moneydance confirm you are working on support for FDX? The Fidelity tech did say that Quicken now supports FDX and there's no charge to download the transactions.
I also requested that Fidelity place "Download as OFX" support on their website like they do for CSV files as a means to support a smoother transition if FDX is the new and improved method the industry is moving to. The Fidelity Associate didn't commitment, but said they would forward it onto the developers.

I'm probably jinxing myself, but as of this morning I can still connect to Fidelity's OFX server using Pocketsense.

MD/IK tried to join the FDX council years ago, but were denied because they were not an aggregator. There was also something about not having a physical presence in the US, but that may have been another matter in long going attempts to be recognized as a valid financial aggregation company for many users.
278 Posted by dwg on 09 Jan, 2026 05:33 AM
The US presence was tied in with doing business with some aggregators.
279 Posted by ppinocci on 09 Jan, 2026 04:30 PM
I too thought I remember IK saying the US presence prevented them from being part of the FDX group. So I was surprised to see them listed as a member of the FDX Consortium.

As for the ability to still connect to Fidelity's OFX server, in my case I'm still able to connect to it, I don't get a server error, it still prompts me for a login and password/pin and again no error pops up, just nothing downloads. And when I look at the console window I see a response came back saying Access Denied (see full response below). So I figured that was Fidelity's way of stopping users from being able to download anymore. I did eventually call Fidelity customer support after some people posted they too called them and was told it was still up. I was told that too at first, but I insisted they contact tier 3 and after a while they came back confirming direct connect was "shut down" to all Quicken and third-party aggregators. I didn't recall any other posts in this discussion saying exactly what people saw when they tried to download. People just say that downloads aren't working or I can't download anymore. But this is what I've been seeing in detail since about Dec. 1, I still get the same Access Denied response in the console window.

Here is a slightly updated version that fixes some transactions being falsely not recognized as duplicates due to lack of sorting of CSV fields in our transaction key.
I will also look at the recommended CSV file suggestions posted earlier at a future time.

FWIW, I don't think I'm getting email updates re this thread anymore so didn't see it just now. Will try to un-subscribe and re-subscribe.
EDITED TO ADD: Looks like I haven't been getting email updates for a bit, so I'll have to read some of the more recent posts. Sorry about that.

The developer did say TIK joined the FDX group, however it seems like many institutions only want to deal with aggregators, if they deal with anyone.
I do not believe TIK wants to get into that market, their preference has always been for Moneydance on your machine to be able to directly download transaction data from the institutions.
286 Posted by dtd on 11 Jan, 2026 12:57 AM
@mmd - if you haven't addressed these already I recommend msgs 231 232 234 264
and the concept that some have only 1 fidelity account and cannot get the right header fields.
Ive really enjoyed using this - very easy.
287 Posted by jesmail on 11 Jan, 2026 07:06 AM
@mmd - tried to load version 7, But get error message "Unable to load extension with ID "import_fidelity" due to missing metadata".
Any ideas?
Thanks...
288 Posted by mmd on 11 Jan, 2026 02:10 PM
@jesmail I believe that error is related to renaming the extension before loading it. It may have been done automatically by your browser if you already have another version save in your downloads folder. But name should be import_fidelity.mxt
289 Posted by jesmail on 11 Jan, 2026 08:48 PM
@mmd - . The file came down as a zip file. So I renamed it to import_fidelity7.zip.
Used the 7 so I could keep the different versions. After removing the "7" it loaded fine.
So you were right on about the name of the file.
Thanks for the quick reply!!!
290 Posted by dwg on 11 Jan, 2026 10:00 PM
When loading an extension into Moneydance the filename must always be the same as the extension name.
291 Posted by dtd on 11 Jan, 2026 10:06 PM
Once installed you can name it extensionv7 for saving different versions.
292 Posted by mmd on 11 Jan, 2026 10:23 PM
@dtd this should address most of the comments
Main changes:
- errors more descriptive - any non-Xfr transactions for which can't find a security automatically made into Xfr transactions - added single-account Fidelity CSV import support with dialog box listing accounts and allowing to choose

I am currently using moneydance+. I was told this will solve the download issue, but it has not. Is there an attempt being made, by moneydance, to allow users to access their Fidelity accounts without all of these importing/exporting/renaming files/manual processing methods.
Support Staff 294 Posted by Maddy on 12 Jan, 2026 08:09 PM
@Steve
Fidelity is actively collaborating with our development team to enable automatic downloads through Moneydance + instead.
Updates will continue to be shared on this public thread where you can also find some useful tips for downloading your data manually, for the time being.
We appreciate your patience and apologize for any inconvenience.

@Maddy,
Can you provide any estimate - even a rough one - on the timeline for a native solution (Moneydance+ or otherwise)? Are we talking days, weeks, months, 6+ months?
Not looking for a firm commitment, but any guidance would be helpful.
Thanks!

On the Fidelity import extension, can anyone tell me the minimum version of MD needed to use it? Mine is still at 2022.6. And I do not see it on the list of available extensions in the app. Thanks
297 Posted by zxkivyx75em8 on 13 Jan, 2026 11:36 PM
You need to download the mxt file from above. It will probably change to zip, I change it back to .mxt, then from the extensions window you want to load from file. Hope that helps.

@Maddy
Thank you for the update. Please let us know when Fidelity is good to go for Moneydance+.

The Fidelity extension is not integrated into the central extension store, so you have to download and install it manually as indicated.
As for the minimum Moneydance version, that has never been stated. There have been changes in the last couple of major Moneydance releases, but whether these have an impact I do not know, someone that is familiar with the internals of the extension and of Moneydance would need to comment, I would think Stuart is the best placed person to make any comment there.

Thanks as always!
I just downloaded the zip and, as an ex-software dev, I opened the contents to look around. At the top of import_fidelity.py I see:
if MD_REF.getBuild() >= 5100: from com.infinitekind.util import AppDebug
if MD_REF.getBuild() >= 4097: from com.infinitekind.util import DateUtil
My build is 4097! So it appears as-if it is at least intended to work. Woo hoo - NOT! I tried to install and it failed. Rats!
