I am very old customer. Overtime I developed a very micro expense tracking system. Tedious to say the least. However, my situation in the past year was such that I was unable to enter transactions. It would now take too much time & energy to catch up. So, I stopped using it; but, I do miss having access to some financial data, especially at tax time.

I need to start over and the new year is the time. I don't need budgeting or investment tracking. Just a system to help me keep track of expenditures. Is there a Moneydance template available that would get me up and going? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Moneydance comes with a ready made set of categories which allow you to assign expenditure according to what the money was spent on (expenditure cateory) or where the money came in from(income category)
You have to set up your own accounts to get started.
The Knowledge Base is well worth a look through in order to see what MD can do for you. Once set ip I am sire it will be suitable for you.

Thank you for your reply. I have my banks setup but am still thinking about credit cards. It just doesn't seem useful to download a bunch of CC transactions except to categorize the expenditures. I am assuming that MD will pick default categories. What most folks do?

I think most people set up credit card accounts separately. This is what the program is designed to do, and it allows one to use the confirmation process to assign the correct categories. Without that, it would be a lot more work to categorize each transaction, and then view accurate reports of income and expenses.

After importing data into an account, downloaded transactions should have a blue dot next to them in the description field. Clicking on a transaction with a blue dot should open a right sidebar with confirmation options. If the transaction is similar to one you have already manually entered, one of the options should be to merge those transactions. Choosing the correct category for transactions in the confirmation process allows Moneydance to improve its suggestions for future downloads. The more transactions you correctly confirm in this process, the better the program will become at suggesting the correct confirmation option from the start.

More details on the confirmation process with screenshots can be found at http://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/co...

Thank you. A tedious process for some. Walmart likes to bring them all
in as Walmart. A little at a time.
