I've been using Moneydance for the past 6+ months. Prior to this, about 10 years ago.

I am trying to limit the *txn files in /safe/tiksync/out/
I assume these files are db transactions and for syncing between multiple machines (not doing). My file/sync settings = Don't Sync. I have *txn files dating back to last summer.
Is there a way to limit the files? Can I simply delete all files older than x days?

Thanks -TJ

As you have surmised, these files are used during syncing to update other systems, however Moneydance uses the same methodology to update your local account set, it has to be like this as updates can be done on any machine, it is a multidirectional syncing system.

There is no point in having a different methodology if syncing is not used, the same approach works just as well.

What you can do is install the Toolbox Extension (Extensions → Manage Extension) then:

        1. Perform a Moneydance backup
        2. Extensions → Toolbox
        3. Select Update Mode
        4. Select Menu: Advanced Options
        5. Select: Shrink Dataset Size (set to 1 day)
        6. Restart Moneydance
        7. Perform a Moneydance backup

This will remove the older, no longer needed files in a controlled manner.

To add. If not using sync then TB will also ask whether you want to purge that folder too. If you’re sure, say yes.

    Toolbox 🧰 +1 😃

    Worked as expected, thx.
I would have thought that with setting 'Don't Sync' and after a backup (set for daily), unneeded *txn files would be purged. Oh well, I can deal with it.
Other than this, it's a great program. I had left it for kmymoney about 10 yrs ago and now I'm back.

Nope - because you might turn off sync for a while and then turn it on again. MD expects to be able to just carry on if a previous sync setup is detected.

Your backup does not affect the way Moneydance manages data internally. Two completely separate and independent processes, for very different purposes.
