You need
to export your data from MSM as a QIF file. When doing the import,
you should "import account information only" (a checkbox at the
bottom of the import dialogue).

Then import the file again (with "import account info only"
un-checked"). If you have only one account you've imported you can
check that account when you import your transactions, or if you
have many accounts you're importing, check "import to new account".
Be sure to also check "import from another program". "Import from a
downloaded file" is used when you are importing a file downloaded
from your bank.

Brian Adlertag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/1979022009-06-11T19:27:17Z2009-06-11T19:27:17ZImporting from Microsoft Money

I am in the same position. Would like to try MD but must be able
to import 20+ years of Money data which is spread over more than
100 accounts (asset, investment, credit card, bank and thousands of
transfers between all accounts).

Money will not export all data in a single QIF file. You can
only export one account at a time. I tried MD several years ago
and, at that time, it was utterly incapable of importing a large,
complex Money file so I gave up. Has MD's import feature improved
since then?

I did run MD side by side with Money for almost a year and also
discovered that MD's reporting, budgeting, cashflow and scheduling
features were far behind Money. Has that situation improved?

Money [Questions]

Good question. Right now, I am trying to import in Quicken and
am getting Duplicate Category messages that I cannot resolve.

I can see leaving older data in Money for archival purposes if
this is what I will have to do eventually in order to use another
program, but I will need to import the current year's transactions,
at the very least.

Well, we do have some time before Microsoft's support goes away,
in any case. This is a good time to test and maybe, between Intuit
and Microsoft, they will come up with an efficient way to transfer
the data.

blegs38552tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/1979022009-06-12T15:29:17Z2009-06-12T15:29:17ZImporting from Microsoft Money

This appears to work. However, I do not see where my MS Money
Category information was transferred into Moneydance.

into Moneydance Windows trial. Created the QIF file, imported
account info only followed by all transactions into checking
account. First, none of the transactions (dating back to 2003) had
category information - they all had the same category, which is the
first one on my list of categories. Second, after the import, I
have to click on record for each one in order to complete the
process. I have several thousand transactions over the 5 1/2 year
period. To record each one will take too long. Tried click on
Select All but nothing happened.

blegs38552tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/1979022009-06-20T23:14:07Z2009-06-20T23:14:07ZImporting from Microsoft Money

Hello blegs38552

I believe the problem you are experiencing is because you need
to set the "File Source" to "From another Program" in the Import
QIF file window.
