Moneydance Update
So I am on Moneydance 2024.4 on Mac - Does anyone know if there are plans to provide a 2026 version as its unusual that all versions or even point versions have stopped?

We have seen the first Alpha for Moneydance 2026, we are currently waiting on the second Alpha.

Hi Rich,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.
Although Moneydance 2026 hasn’t been officially announced yet, the development team is actively working on it. Once the new features and improvements are finalized and fully tested, we’ll release a preview build, followed by the stable public version.
When the public release goes live on our store, it will be pushed to the Mac App Store as well. At that point, you should be able to download it by logging into the Mac App Store using the same Apple ID you used when you first purchased the app.
I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if you have further questions or need more assistance.

@Rich
The"alpha" of Moneydance is an early-stage development preview version.
This is used in the software development for testing new features. An alpha version typically includes new features or major updates but may still have bugs and incomplete functionality. It is usually shared with a limited group of users for feedback before progressing to beta testing.

Hi Maddy - I used to work in IT so I understand alpha and beta versions and the need to go through this cycle in depth.
It’s good to know that there is still development on the platform, which I hope is also on the standalone product as well as the MD+ service as many including myself in the UK use the product standalone.
I understand that no timeline can be given so won’t ask, but wondered if you are planning to work on an agile Continuous Development model for smaller change rollout or will it continue as is with larger less frequent drops moving forward?

This is my own view.
There is an element of a continuous development model in Moneydance, although you would not know it from the designations.
Once we get past the initial couple of point releases subsequent beta releases largely become bug fix versions with periodic stable release just to consolidate them in a more public release to be issued via all distribution points, otherwise it is only the directly purchased users that can make use of them.
This is why at times we recommend to use of a beta, that is not to say some major feature cannot be introduced in a point release, but it is rare.

Hi dog - Yes I get that but thanks for your thoughts. I have read on alternate posts that MD is being rewritten in a new language to make it portable across different platforms and if my reading is correct, then that makes sense as to why it is taking longer than usual to develop/test and retest the software before it becomes GA. This type of information if correct will be really helpful when the software is eventually made available as some like myself are not traditionally early adopters and so may wait for initial adoption bugs to be squashed.
