Deleting Categories
When I used to use Quicken, I was able to 'close' out a year. Is that possible with Moneydance? The main reason I'm asking is that I have a number of categories that I now longer use and would like to get rid of them. However, since time seems to go on and on in Moneydance, if I delete a category it messes up my balances.

Laura,
Moneydance does not have a formal way to close out the year as Quicken does. If you have categories you no longer use you can mark them as "Inactive" to no longer have them offered in your active file (in category fields or most reports). To mark a category as Inactive, go to Tools->Categories. Highlight the desired category and click "Edit", then check the "Inactive" box in the window which appears.
Thanks for using Moneydance, and please let me know if I can be of further assistance,
