2 Moneydance apps

I currently have Moneydance for my personal use. I am involved in a small nonprofit and would like to get a separate account for the nonprofit. Can I have 2 apps one for personal and one for the nonprofit on my computer?

   Absolutely - just do file/new to create a second dataset and name it appropriately.

   I am looking at getting a brand new account, not a new data set.  Therefore, I would have 2 moneydance apps on my computer.  Can I do that with no confusion between the 2 totally separate accounts?

   It is not the way Moneydance is designed to work.

   To make it work and keep the two completely separate you would have to:

   1. Install the software to different folder

   2. Have two separate user accounts on the computer to run the software OR Do a custom script to start Moneydance to make use of different folders for Moneydance's home folder in the one account.

   why do you need another app. A new dataset IS a new account. Thiunk of a word document - two word files. Extend that to moneydance, a new file is not an extension of your current file - it's totally different.

   you don't need two word apps to create two different files, same for moneydance.

   Your licence allows you to set up multiple files - one for your personal accounts, one for the not-for-profit, and more if you like. You don't need separate apps for that; in Moneydance, you'd switch between files by picking File | Open on the menu.
   Later, you could hand the file over to your successor at the not-for-profit and they'd need a new licence then, but you don't have to set that up yet. Still, if the not-for-profit's attitude is that it must have its own licence even while you're looking after the accounts, you can do that too, but not by installing a fresh app. Instead, set up a different user on your computer, log in as that user and then run Moneydance. Under Help | Register Moneydance, provide the new licence key. (Basically, it's one licence key per user, unless you're going to start using scripts as dwg mentions).
