Duplicate online downloads
I changed my password on my brokerage account at Schwab. When I was unable to successfully download that account, I followed a suggestion you gave another customer and disenabled online banking for that account, and then re-established it. Then the system successfully did a download, but it duplicated all transactions for the last 2 years -- hundreds of transactions, none of which were matched the ones already in Moneydance. Is there anything I can do to fix this other than going through and deleting duplicates one by one?

I found an answer to my earlier question, as I have a version of my Moneydance account from prior to that download.
So now, before I do any downloading from Schwab, what can I do to prevent receiving 2 years of duplicate transactions?

Hi Claudia,
If you have already downloaded a transaction, Moneydance should match it by using the transaction ID sent with each transaction, so you shouldn't see duplicates. However, if the transactions were imported from another source like Quicken or manually entered, they will not have transaction IDs. In that case, you'll need to merge them manually. You should merge the duplicates instead of deleting them, because then the transaction ID will be saved with the transaction, which should prevent future duplicates.

Jessica, thanks for the info, but that is not what happened. The
transactions were downloaded directly from Schwab, and Moneydance did not
match any of them. Is there some setting in Moneydance that may be
incorrect?

Hi Claudia,
Assuming that the Schwab account is an Investment type account, then unfortunately the 'Merge' option is not going to be offered for the duplicated txns.
You're probably not going to want to hear this but you'll have to manually match the downloaded txns with the existing ones. Keep the 'blue dot' txns and delete the existing corresponding txns so that the new txns retain the unique ID number that Jessica Little mentioned. Once a txn is matched up and the old txn is deleted, you can 'Confirm' the 'blue dot' txn thus removing the 'blue dot'.
If I may make a suggestion, I would make a copy of your Moneydance data file and perform this operation on the copy data file, correcting a few months worth of data each day until it was completed.
You could still maintain your existing Moneydance data file by manually downloading data from Schwab. Manual downloading should provide more control over how much data is sent to your data file.
Of course you could just skip the whole direct-connect option and continue with manual downloads.
I have to say that it is NOT the norm for a financial institution to make available 2 years worth of data for direct-connect downloads. The norm is from 60 to 90 days. A double-edged sword for sure.

Hi, Kevin. I understand your instructions, but I'm really surprised this is
so difficult. Changing a password is pretty common. Doesn't Moneydance
have a way to do this other than disabling Online Banking and setting it up
again?
I changed my password for my brokerage account at Fidelity, too. When
Moneydance was unable to download, the screen asking for username and
password popped up. I entered the new one, Moneydance proceeded to
download, and there were no duplicate transactions.
When I try to download from Schwab, I get a message: "Error code reported
by the Server was 2000. Please verify the user id and password entered are
valid."
How do I put in the current user id and password?
I tried going to "Set up Online Banking". I pressed "Change", entered the
current user name and password and followed the instructions up to Finish,
but when I try to download, I get the same error message. I also looked at
the Password tab under Set Up Online Banking, but since it asks for both old
and new passwords, it looks like it will try to change the password again at
Schwab, which I do not want to do.
Thanks for your advice!

Hi Claudia,
Upon re-reading your OP, apparently you already had direct-connect working for your Schwab account, changed your password, downloaded your data and duplicate txns were downloaded to the tune of 2 years. Correct?
You are right, it should not be this difficult and you should not have to disable direct-connect.
Since you already had direct-connect working, the existing txns in your Schwab account should now contain the unique ID's and should not have been re-downloaded. Changing the password should have no effect on the existing txns.
I am going to yield to the Moneydance Support Staff to help you further. I'm sorry that I could not be of help. Perhaps an existing Schwab customer could chime in with some advice.

Hi Claudia,
Something just came to mind, which may help MD support.
While attempting to resolve this issue did you at any point click on the 'Reset Sync' button in the 'Online Banking Services' form?

Thanks, Kevin. Your first e-mail is correct. No, I don't think I've seen
the Reset Sync button. I won't hunt for it until I have definitive
instructions from MD support.

Hi Claudia,
The Reset Sync button basically resets Moneydance's internal tracker of the last download date. This means that, the next time you connect, Moneydance will request all available data, instead of just the transactions since the last time you downloaded. However, this actually shouldn't produce duplicates, since the transaction should have transaction IDs. The only new transactions would be ones that you had deleted, which would be re-downloaded.
Changing your password and re-creating your connection shouldn't have caused duplicate downloads, unless Schwab changed your transaction IDs for some reason (very unlikely). Unfortunately, I'm not sure what did cause the problem. If you highlight the duplicate transactions, are you given the option to merge them? If so, you should just go ahead and do that. That will make sure that the transaction IDs are retained, so you shouldn't get further duplicates.

Jessica, your solution would still require me to look individually at 100's
of transactions.
Let's take a step back. I returned to an older Moneydance file, before the
download that yielded 100's of duplicates. Before the password change, I
had automatic downloads working with all of my accounts. I then changed
passwords for my accounts at Fidelity, Schwab and my Chase credit card.
With Fidelity, when I tried a download, a drop down screen asked for the new
user ID and password, and after I provided it, the downloads worked fine, no
duplicates.
With Schwab, I got an error message code 2000, asking me to verify the user
name and password, but no drop down screen for that. I went to Set Up
Online Banking, pressed the Change tab, changed the user name and password,
followed the remaining screens, but each time I try to download that
account, I still get the same error message.
With my Chase credit card account, I got the message asking me to verify
user name and password, did the same procedure using Set Up Online Banking
and the Change tab, and now, each time I try to download that account, I get
an error message 2000, Unable to connect with your financial institution.
Is there a way to cause Moneydance to download the Schwab and Chase accounts
using the new password, without disabling Online Banking for those accounts
and restarting it? If so, what is it? If there is no other way, and I must
disable and re-set up online banking for those accounts, is there anything I
can do to avoid receiving duplicate transactions?
Thanks,
Claudia

Hi Claudia,
From your Schwab and Chase registers, go to the Online menu and select the "Forget Online Passwords" option. Then try your download again. Hopefully, you should be able to connect without getting the 2000 error.

Hi, Jessica!
In August, you solved a problem for me, and I'm hoping you can help with a
related issue.
Then, I changed the password on my current credit card with Chase. I was
getting a 2000 error when I tried to download. You advised that I go into
Online and press "Forget Existing Passwords" for that account. That worked
fine, and the downloads have been good since then on that account.
Now my husband has a new credit card, also with Chase. I've created the
Moneydance account for that card. He has a username and password which
work on the Chase website. When I try to set up Online Banking for that
account, I enter his username and password and I get a 2000 error from
Moneydance. In this case, since I'm just setting up Online Banking, I don't
have the option to "Forget Existing Passwords". What should I do to get
online banking to work for the new credit card account.
Thank you.

Hi Claudia,
Has your husband's Chase Credit Card been activated for direct connect?
If not, do so by logging on to the Chase website for your husband's card
Click on the 'Customer Center' tab.
About 3/4 of the way down the page in the 'Reference Center' section, click on 'Activate Quicken, Quickbooks etc.'
