We don't currently have a release date for the iPhone app, but will be posting an update on our blog in the next week or two with more info about the current status of the iPhone app. We know that the app has been a long time coming, but we hope it will be worth the wait.
Please let me know if I can be of further assistance, and thank you for your interest in Moneydance.

The iPhone app is currently going through a U.S. government approval process required for software that uses an encryption protocol. We estimate this will take 2 more weeks, and then we will send it to apple for approval. We believe that this will take an additional 2 weeks. These are optimistic estimates, contingent on approval by the government and Apple. That said, it seems possible we will be able to release this app around Valentines Day 2010. We will post an update when we have more concrete information.

Could we at least get a little preview as to what features it will include, how it will sync with the desktop file, and some screenshots??

Yeah definately -- Screenshots would make a HUGE difference in helping with the wait!!!

That doesn't seem unreasonable. I'll work with Sean to get something posted this coming week.

I appreciate your patience with this process. I know it has taken is much longer than I predicted to develop and release this app. Hopefully this bit of info will be a little reassuring while we wait for approval to release it.
The app will sync via the iPhone or iPod Touch's wifi connection. On the desktop, we have an extension to Moneydance that will sync over the local network with any iPhone OS devices that it discovers using Bonjour/Zeroconf and with which it has been paired by entering an access/encryption key.
I've also attached a couple of screenshots that show the app in action. Basically, the app syncs accounts, categories and transactions between one or more devices and the desktop version of moneydance. The general idea is that the app provides a way to enter, view and edit transactions while "on the road" that can sync up with your desktop.

Sean,
Thanks for the info and images! Looks good and seems to do just what I am looking for. Hopefully the Apple & gubm't approval won't take much longer.

Hi there,
Thanks for these first images.
Just a quick question related to the app.
I know that it will be crypted but will it be possible to only synchronise 1 account ?
i.e. will it be possible to add for instance only operations to the "cash" account ?
I don't believe that I need to have the details of all my accounts, assests, etc whereas the main goal of the iphone app will be to add and categorise my cash operations !
Thanks a lot
Stephane

hi Stephane
Currently the app doesn't show investment accounts, and the entire app will only sync the last N days, where the user can choose N.
We are looking into a way to hide certain accounts, but the first release shows all accounts (besides investments/loans)
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

MoneyDance plus an iPhone app is just what I'm after. Will the App be available in the UK and if so will it have to go through UK govt approval beforehand (If so Valentines Day 2011 seems a more realistic release date) - John

Hi John
The app will only need approval for export from the US government. It will be available in the UK.
I just checked the Export License Applications system and the iphone app is still pending.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Is it possible to get on an email list to be notified when the app is released and available in the app store? Any idea yet of the purchase price? Thanks for the info.

Probably the best way to get notified would be to subscribe to the RSS feed on our blog. Here is the link to subscribe:

How bout a Pre app!?
22 Posted by Ben Spencer on 05 Mar, 2010 02:24 PM
We aren't ruling out any mobile platforms at this point. However we first want to get the iPhone app out into the field and see how well it is received.
Sincerely
Ben Spencer

Since you received the required documents from the government has this been sent to Apple for approval?
Thanks,
Brandon
