I have just updated to Version 2012.3 (852) and have attempted to move my data files to a different location (a different partition on the same hard drive) following the instructions "How to move your data file to a different location..." but without success. Whenever I selected a data file (e.g. 'Home.internal-2013-01-19') and clicked 'Open' in the dialogue nothing appeared in the main window under 'Account Sets' and Moneydance couldn't start. I'll try rebooting to see if that helps it to recognise where the files are now located but would appreciate whatever advice you can give. (Using Windows 7)

    Hello,

It sounds like you're trying to open the wrong file. First, just to make sure, you should be moving the entire yourfilename.moneydance folder, as this is what the program will consider to be your complete data file. The file that should be opened within that folder in Windows should be called root.mdinternal, and should be located just inside the yourfilename.moneydance folder. Based on your description of the file name, what you are trying to open seems to be similar to a checkpoint backup file, which typically end with the date after the file extension. Can you see a root.mdinternal file (without a date after it) in the folder you moved and try to open that? If not, what files are in that folder?

Thank you – that solved it. Perhaps the specific file name could be
added to the web page describing "How to move your data file to a
different location" so that you don't get plagued by others having the
    same difficulty.

I've just updated the instructions for moving one's data file at http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/moneydance-2012/how-to-move-your-da... for our knowledge base to include your suggestion. The change I made was with the second to last paragraph, where I clarified what file to select depending on one's operating system. If you have a second to look at it and let me know if you think that would have been sufficient to prevent you from having that confusion, that would be helpful for your fellow Moneydance users.

    Thanks,

I thinks that's fine, thanks Ethan. I haven't checked to see if there's
anything similar in the Moneydance 2012 User Guide but it might be worth
    adding it if not.
