Why does Money Dance show stock closing prices other than the actual ones. Each day I have to change the erroneous values, but Money Dance won't accept my changes until the next day. "Why?" to both these issues.

What do you actually mean by "Actual ones".

Services like AlphaVantage provide open, close, high, low type end of day prices

I want closing prices each day. How do I get AlphaVantage to give closing
    prices to me?

This is one of the problems we have with AV. They do not provide a Time series that only has daily closing prices. All of their daily series provides closing prices except for the current day where it does intraday pricing.

Perhaps the only way to force it to get only what you want is to set it for weekly and have it set to run on the weekend.

And what time of day is AV’s intraday value sent to us?

Intraday prices are updated during the day. I have not seen any reference by AlphaVantage to how often.

Why don't you try the user develop Quote Loader, it uses different sources and provides various options on when it will update prices.

Apparently Quote Loader is already installed for me. So is AlphaVantage.
You add and remove them at
    different locations. What has happened
today is all my stocks automatically
updated to Friday’s close. I am not sure if that will continue next Tuesday
    morn
before the stock exchange opening bell. Are they both providing data for me
where one seems to correct the other?

There is a Warning in BOLD in post 236 at http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3771-third-par...

    Which states
Users must uninstall the Quotes and Rates Updater extension to Prevent Conflicts!!

having both install could result in unpredictable results!!

I spoke too soon. I am using the Quotes and Rates Updater not the Quote
Loader System. Are these two things the same?

  10. 10 Posted by dwg on 06 Jan, 2019 03:10 AM

    dwg's Avatar

No they are two completely different things, but the aim of both is to download stock prices and currency quotes, they do it using different sources and with a different approach.

So I am only using one of them. I am also using AV.

AlphaVantage is one of the sources that the Quotes & Exchange Rates extension uses, along with IEX Trading and European Central Bank. AV is nothing more than a data source.

The Quote Loader uses Yahoo and The Financial Times.

The Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension pulls data from AlphaVantage. The
Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater gets its
data from Yahoo or Google. So the Updater is not the same as the
    Extension. The Updater, then,
should not be active if the Extension
    is and visa versa. Correcto?

Maybe. I say during a current day AlphaVantage pulls in some random data
value for a given stock. If you
wait until the next day before the
Market opens Google or Yahoo send
via the Updater the closing value from
the previous day which over rides.

    Michael,

I have no idea where you got "Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater" from or using Google as a source.

It has not been possible to use Google as a source for a couple of years and it was not a great source for international securities in any case.

Both Tools I mentioned are extensions. The Quote Loader just doesn't use the word extension in its name.

I see little point in pulling in price data multiple times during the day, Moneydance is not trading software - and the prices are often on a delay in any case.

I believe the best thing to do is to look at the tools, determine which can source the prices your require, works the way you like and has the options you would use and then use this.

    Hi Michael,

It seems you are seeing things the rest of us are not.

The first options I see in the extension drop down is “Quote and Exchange Rates” which opens a window that allows you select the source for Currency Exchange Rates, Alphavantage or European Central Bank. For security prices the source selection is Alphavantage or IEX Trading.

The second option in the Extension dropdown is “Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater”. Clicking this simple evokes the selections you make in the “Quote and Exchange Rates” window without the need to open the window and click Update Now. The sources are the same. As dwg stated these options haven’t used Google or Yahoo for a long time.

If you are seeing something different that includes Google and Yahoo can you take and post two screen shots?

    1. a screen shot of the dropdown under extensions so we can see the two options you are talking about “Quotes and Exchange Rates Extension” and “Quotes and Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater”.

    2. a screen shot of the windows that opens when you click on the extension “Quotes and Exchange Rates”.

The only way to get other sources Yahoo and FT is to install the Quote Loader system after uninstalling “Quote and Exchange Rates Updater” under EXTENSIONS – MANAGE EXTENSIONS

The info for the 2017 third-party Quote Load can be found in the PDF attached to post 236 at http://help.infinitekind.com/discussions/investments/3771-third-par...

    Hope this helps

The version of Money Dance I have truly does claim Google or Yahoo as a
source for data in the Updater and makes no mention of the Updater as an
Update Now alternative. Maybe I should download the 2019 version of Money
Dance, but I hear there are some stability issues with it.
Whether or not Google or Yahoo are no longer data sources is not important.
My version of MD portrays the Quotes and Exchange Rates Updater as an
internal subroutine of MD and not just a relocated Updater command.

If you have a copy of the Quotes and Exchange Rate extension that claims either Google or Yahoo as quote sources you are using an obsolete version of the extension.

Q & ER has not and never has been internal to Moneydance, It is bundled in with Moneydance if you purchase it from the Apple store, but it is still an extension.

    Hi Michael,

What version of Moneydance are you running? The latest stable release is 2017.10(1706)
What version of the “Quote and Exchange Rates Updater” are running? The latest released build is v1024

From what I see, all versions of MD are obsolete on the day they come out.
I have made sense of what I have so my version works for me.
