I am always a month or two off when making entries, reconciling, and generating reports.
Moneydance uses the PC's System Date as the working date for reports, thus bringing in the wrong balance for reconciling.
I will be changing the PC's System Date to force the time frame that I am interested in inside Moneydance.
It would be really nice if there was another way for me to set the time frame that Moneydance uses.
P.S. I only want to use Moneydance as an approximation of my finances, not real time!

rstafftag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/469412812019-02-11T00:42:59Z2019-02-11T00:42:59ZOverriding PC System Date to set a working date inside Moneydance

Hello Rick,

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're asking. Moneydance should have the same balances for reconciling your accounts, since the totals there are calculated values. Can you explain in a bit more detail what changing the system date does to what you are seeing?

With the reports, some of the date options may better meet your needs. Is there an option that is a more stable point for what you want to view, like the last month option? Reports don't have to have the 'real time' settings.

Not sure why you are changing the PC clock.

If you go to New Transaction & say set the date to 01/01/2019 then enter your transaction data, then do New Transaction again & again & again…. the date still shows as 01/01/2019, it does not revert back to today’s date until you close the program or leave that account.

If you have a large backlog of entries to make presumably setting the date to the start or end of any given month should be sufficient, as you say you are only after an approximation of your finances.

Tinkering with PC date can have some unexpected consequences. Like it upsets any OS updates & can render Registered Programs to become unregistered, & immediately ends any 30 day trials that you may have running if you forget to turn the date back.

Just as an FYI, there are several keyboard entries that you can use in the Date field to move the date back and forth.
