I just recently paid to upgrade my version of Moneydance; I would like a refund, since it is not turning out to be easy
to use. I am having a difficulty downloading my transactions with their categories from my bank.

Thanks,

I would be happy to authorize a refund and I am inclined to offer you technical assistance first. This is not an attempt to get out of giving you a refund, if that is what you want let me know and I will authorize it today. However if there is something specific you believe that I might be able to assist you with I am at your service. If you could explain in more detail the problems you are having with categories, that would be a good place to start, especially how the current version differs from whatever previous version you had installed.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I would like to connect Moneydance to my online credit card account, and download the transactions with the transaction categories
already found on the credit card site. I don’t want to download all the transactions as a default category, then go through all of them
to re-categorize. Also, once the transactions have been categorized, will Moneydance remember and categorize future such transactions?

Thanks,

It's unlikely that your bank is actually sending your transactions with categories, since most download formats don't allow that. Can you clarify how you are getting your transactions into Moneydance? If you are downloading a file and importing it, what file type are you using?

Normally what happens is that after importing transactions from a bank, you need to go through the confirmation process to assign the correct categories. This process is described with screenshots at http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/online-banking-and-bill-pay/confirm.... This is what gives Moneydance information about which categories to assign to transactions. You will have to confirm your first set of transactions with the correct categories, but then you'll see that Moneydance will start suggesting the correct categories for transactions it has seen before. For future downloads, it will suggest the category it thinks is best based on your previous confirmation history. If your spending is fairly regular, this usually means Moneydance will end up suggesting the correct category for almost every transaction once it has a few months of confirmed data in that account.

I am establishing an online account i.e. provide login and password, then later say, download transactions.

My user experience with Clarity Money and Personal Capital is that after providing the login and password,
I get my transactions downloaded with some categories. You may be right, the categories may not be downloaded
from the bank, however, the two services does a pretty good job of guessing. Is there a similar feature in MoneyDance?

Thanks,
Dewane

Dewane Wtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/469709902019-02-19T08:11:06Z2019-02-19T08:11:06ZRefund

Hi Dewane,

I'd recommend taking a look at this section of the knowledge base that details recognising and confirming your recently downloaded data.
When transactions have been recently downloaded, they'll be 'unconfirmed' which is signified by a blue dot in the register.

To begin the confirmation process, select the first transaction in the register with a 'blue dot'. A panel will appear on the right of your screen which shows the 'Current Transaction' details. You can amend the category field within this panel, then select 'Confirm'. Moneydance will then move to the next unconfirmed transaction in the register. You'll see the solid blue dot change to a blue circle.

As you go through the confirmation process it will become quicker and easier. Moneydance will begin to recognise the information you have previously confirmed, and begin to suggest the correct categories for your data, within 'Similar Payees' in the panel on the right. The next time you download from the bank, many of the correct categories will automatically be assigned.
