You don’t state which version and build of Moneydance you are running. E.g. 2019.3(1869).

Assuming you are running the latest version and build of either 2017 or 2019 the following is true.
If you follow this syncing method see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/sync...
You can sync both computers using Dropbox Folder as you suggest. A folder called “.moneydancesync” is automatically set up in Dropbox. The data set on your primary computer is passed to the Dropbox folder then on to your secondary computer which then creates its own data set. Note the two data set are not exactly the same by design. You can access your data set on both computers at the same time. Add a transaction on one computer and within 30 to 60 seconds watch it appear on the other. Moneydance’s sync engine ensures no corruption.
The Moneydance’s mobile app use a internal Dropbox API to access the “.moneydancesync” folder in your Dropbox online account, so it does not matter which sync method, Folder or Connection, you selected on your computers, see https://infinitekind.tenderapp.com/kb/syncing-and-sharing-data/sync...

Could you explain the bit I read here : ''We strongly recommend that your main data file (the .moneydance file) is stored locally. In newer versions of Moneydance, you'll be prompted to move the file to your local system, if Moneydance detects the file is being shared''.

What does this mean? If I move the moneydance file on computer 1 to it's local C drive- then how will computer 2 access the latest data from the shared dropbox folder?

mrdee0tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/471998132019-04-23T15:33:38Z2019-04-23T15:33:38ZSync with two computers, android and Ipad app

I am not support staff, just a user.

Make sure you are running 2017.10(1706) from https://infinitekind.com/download_2017

When you are syncing two or more computers one is always the primary computer. The one you set up under FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) - SYNCING. All secondary computers are synced using FILE (MONEYDANCE on Mac) – NEW – OPEN SYNCED FILE.
The data set for the primary computer must be on your hard drive not external, such as in Dropbox. Your Data set default location can be found under HELP – SHOW DOCUMENT FOLDER. If your data set is not on your hard drive you run the risk of corruption, hence the warning.

Then you set up syncing on your primary computer data is copied to a automatically created Dropbox Folder called “.moneydancesync”. When you set up syncing on a secondary computer data is copied from the Dropbox “.moneydancesync” folder and used to create a secondary data set on your secondary computers. Again automatically. Note the two data set are not exactly the same by design. You can access your data set on both computers at the same time. Add a transaction on one computer and within 30 to 60 seconds watch it appear on the other. Small transaction files are passed between computers using the “.moneydancesync” Dropbox folder. Moneydance’s sync engine ensures no corruption.
The Moneydance’s mobile app use a internal Dropbox API to access the “.moneydancesync” folder in your Dropbox online account, so it does not matter which sync method, Folder or Connection, you selected on your computers.

I shall now have a go. Thanks for explaining it better. We could really do with a diagram to visually illustrate the syncing concept.

mrdee0tag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/471998132019-04-23T19:14:29Z2019-04-23T19:14:29ZSync with two computers, android and Ipad app

I am not support staff, just a user.
