I got hung up because the file extension is wrong. I created an 'excel' file and tried importing data from MD but got rejected the file extension is wrong. I know excel will accept the 'CSV' format but how do I change the MD format to CSV? Also, where do I find the file extension within MD?

gsealbetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474873942019-08-04T03:13:27Z2019-08-04T03:13:27ZExport MD report to MS Excel worksheet

I'm using Windows and when I save the file I just choose a Comma delimited file and make sure the file name has a .csv extension.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474873942019-08-05T23:53:58Z2019-08-05T23:53:58ZExport MD report to MS Excel worksheet

No somethings wrong. I think I'm missing a step. Heres what I did.
Created a blank XL file to receive the MD data.
Selected the MD report I needed to export.
Clicked 'SAVE',
Changed the file extension to 'COMMA'
Selected the blank XL file from my Documents
Hit ENTER.
. . . Nothing happened. I'm doing something wrong but don'rt know what. I can't help wondering why it's so hard to exxport a MD file into XL.Most software make it easy. You just hit a button and . . . voilla!

gsealbetag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474873942019-08-06T09:16:09Z2019-08-06T09:16:09ZExport MD report to MS Excel worksheet

That approach will not work. Moneydance, and for that matter Quicken, do not have the ability to write Excel files, it is necessary to take effectively data through an intermediate stage.

One method is to use the "Copy to Clipboard" Function that is at the top of the report window, then use the past function in Excel to place the data in a spreadsheet. Alas I do not expect this to work satisfactorily since the spreadsheet software cannot know where fields start and finish because there are no delimiters in the data.

The other method is to use the "Save" button at the top of the report window, then choose "comma delimited" from the format list and ensure that the filename chosen has a .csv extension.

Within Excel choose, if I recall correctly, the open function (I have not used Excel in a number of years I now use LibreOffice) and select the .CSV file that was saved. Excel should take you through an import dialog.

dwgtag:infinitekind.tenderapp.com,2009-01-14:Comment/474873942019-08-06T23:19:32Z2019-08-06T23:19:32ZExport MD report to MS Excel worksheet

Wow! I'll give it a go and see what happens. Of course, the best approach
would be for MD to write a simple programme to import MD files direct to
XL. I'm going to raise the issue. Thanks again.

gsealbe
