Is it possible to generate a report for a specific time period? - say one year - by category. Some categories may be included, some may be excluded.

I am looking for a checking program to replace Quicken. I have three checking accounts and at the end of the year I am able to create a report by category for each checking account for my tax return.

    Hi Alan,
Thank you for contacting Moneydance support.

If you haven't already, I encourage you to download our free trial version and experiment with the program. You can download the trial version of Moneydance from our website on this page.

The trial version is fully functional and allows you to manually enter 100 transactions. Imported transactions are not limited, so you'll be able to fully test downloading data from your bank, and importing data from other personal finance software.
If you decide to purchase the program at a later date you can keep all data you have entered during the trial period.

You can find the Moneydance knowledge base here which will be useful if you're using the program for the first time. I'd be happy to provide guidance if you have any questions or need assistance getting setup.

For a full description of Report Types available in Moneydance, please refer to this article.

Finally, both the "Income and Expense" and "Income and Expense, Detailed" reports can be used for tax reporting.

If you have created income and expense categories designated as Tax Related and/or created Transaction Tags referencing taxes, you can use these as criteria for generating reports.

Once you have marked income and expense accounts as Tax Related, you can use the “Only Tax Related” filter in the Income and Expense reports.
This will allow you to produce reports showing all your tax related items for any time period you choose.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.
