I am new to Moneydance and am still trying to set it up. I have made a few errors such as:
- Importing transactions into the wrong account - Importing a single file twice.

Is there a way I can undo the import or fix the problem without having to start all over again?

    Hello,

While you can't undo an entire import function, there's a few things you can do to correct the problem. One would be to simply select all of the transactions you want to remove, right click on the selection, and select delete. If you imported transactions into the incorrect account, you can select all of those transactions, right click on the selection, choose Batch Change -> Account, and chose the account you want to move all the transactions to.

If two transactions imported from a file are identical, you may be able to click on one to open the confirmation options on the right side bar, and choose the "merge" option to combine the transactions. If you only have a relatively small number of duplicates, this may be the easiest way to fix this problem.

If all else fails, you can try restoring one of your checkpoint backup files. Locate your data file by reading about file locations at http://help.infinitekind.com/kb/frequently-asked-questions-2/moneyd.... Close Moneydance, and open the checkpt folder within your main Moneydance data folder, and you should see files that end with a date at the end of the file name. Copy the newest of these files, and move it one folder level up. In this folder, you should see a file called "root.mdinternal". Rename this file to something like oldroot.mdinternal in case you want to go back to it. Then rename the file that you just copied into that folder "root.mdinternal". When you relaunch Moneydance, the file that was saved that previous day should now be what opens. This should be considered a last resort option, because while your incorrect import should not be in this file, you will likely not have any of the other data you entered into Moneydance during that same session in that file.

Depending on how far along you are in setting up the program and how large the amount of data is that was incorrectly imported, it may make more sense to completely start over by going to File->New.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance,

Thanks for the email Tupelo. A few questions:

    - If the transactions overlap in dates, how do i know which transactions
are from the last import? There is no import date/time field.

    - Perhaps adding this feature in jext releases is a good
idea...particularly for the people whose banks are not supported in the
online setup. This error is bound to happen.

    - Also, moneydance does not pickup transaction duplicates, such as when
you import transactions of a particular date twice, does it? For people
doing imports rather than online setup this mistake is bound to happen too.

    Kindly advise.

    Hi,
Regarding the first question, if they are identical it shouldn't matter which one you pick.
Regarding duplicates, the confirmation process provides a process for detecting duplicates but because Moneydance does not want to accidentally delete your file there is a confirmation process. If you trust Moneydance to do so, you can select all the transactions at once and confirm them all together.
Additionally, if offered, please try downloading files in the .OFX format which provides unique IDs for all transactions. This is a much safer way of confirming duplicates and with OFX format files Moneydance will automatically screen out duplicates.
    Sincerely,

Thanks. Sorry to bother, but if they are NOT identical but overlap in the
period, how do i fix that? Do i need to go through each of them figuring
    out if it belongs?

    Regards

    Hello,

If I'm understanding you correctly, if the two transactions are not identical, then we're not talking about the double import problem anymore? If so, then your choices are the other options that I mentioned: selecting and deleting the errant transactions, using Batch Change to move those transactions to the correct account, or restoring one of the checkpoint files.
