For some reason my CSV files which used to download to moneydance now go to Microsoft EXcel. How do I get them to download to moneydance again?

Your question is more to do with how your Computer Operating system works than about MoneyDance!

You don’t say if you are using Windows or Mac but the process is similar.

Right click the CSV file, you will get a menu that includes Open With, find MoneyDance on the list, and select Always Open With.

One other way is to run the MoneyDance installer again.

    Hi John,

When you install Moneydance, you're asked to specify if Moneydance is to be used as the default for a number of different file formats - one of these formats is CSV. Perhaps this setting was inadvertently selected during the setup process?

I believe you're using Windows 10, so you can fix this within your OS settings.

You should 'right click' (or press Ctrl and click) on the CSV file to view the menu.
Choose 'Open With' and select 'Choose Another App'.
In the window that opens, select the program you prefer to use.
Make sure you enable the box 'Always use this app to open these files'.

If this doesn't work, you can follow the steps below to set another program as the default program to open CSV files -

    • Open the Start menu and begin typing 'Settings'.
    • This will reveal the Settings app which you should select to open it.
    • Choose 'Apps' from within the Settings window.
    • Then choose 'Default Apps' from the list on the left.
    • Then scroll down and select 'Choose default apps by file'.
    • Then scroll down again until you see '.CSV' displayed within the list on the left.
    • To the right of this, you should see the default program used - select this to change it.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have further questions or need any assistance.
